Nice catch Mark, thats a good size knobbie, we we're thinking of making the effort but with the change coming through around midday and towing the boat from brissy and the way the price of fuel is, it was enough to put us off. Had too many trips on the similar forecast to came out of the harbour to a solid 15 + knots of NE. Good to see you got good rewards for your effort.

Nice one mate! Good result for a quick run! My brother went to Caloundra 10 mile and got 2 nice Reds around the 580mm mark also some nice squire! Seems the gods may have been smiling on the beginers yesterday! i.e Chemmy aka Barwon King I think he has a lot of catching up to do to get to the likes of you blokes!

Hi Mark. Well done. Good catch. I note that you mention jigging. I am keen to get into this style of fishing. What type of gear do you use? I have been told that my normal offshore gear want do for jigging. I have been to the tackle shops and it seems like the go from their point of view is a t curve rod with a shimano reel made for jigging and some 80 pound braid. About $800 worth. Zest jigs. What do you use? I have no experience so I dont know what is bull---- and what is fact. Any insight much appreciated.

Thanks Skippa & Zeeke for the tips on taking sounder photos, i'll give it a try. Stuie, it is a CRT sounder so refresh is a problem. I have been experimenting using a longer exposure which seems to overcoem the problem, but it is hard to stop the camera from moving in offshore conditions and they come out blurred.

Chemmy, it is a tarwine, johno's dad loves them, so we kept it for him.

Spiro, the size was down a little bit from what it had been. We fished the centre of the banks as I hadn't given that area a go for a while.

Seaspot, I am no expert on jiging, I have been giving it a go on my normal bottom bashing gear, altough I am thinking about forking out for a dedicated jig stick and reel. As you say they are expensive, but it is true, if you want to do it properly, you need a reel that can hold up to the action of jigging and a rod that will put the right action onto the jig. The rod and reel I am looking at are about $1,500, hence, I haven't forked out for it yet. Jigging is good fun for a while but it is also hard work, so I am not sure I wil be doing it enough to warrant the cost of the rod and reel.

    Thanks for all the comments,

    Cheers,

    Mark

    Mark,

Sweet mate. You NEVER miss - well done again. Some nice fish there.

    I especially love this bit:

I haven't been out for a while and probably won't get a chance for a few more weeks yet. Hopefully there's still a few around when I next get a chance to go.

    Well done again.

    Re: Barwon Banks Saturday

Macca & Stubbie, I always think of snapper starting at 10lb in the old scale. Less than that I call them squire, but everyone has a different idea of the cutoff point. It really doesn't matter much what you call em, or how many you have caught, they are still great fun to catch

Should be plenty still around for the next couple of months. Hope you get the time to get amounst them.

    Cheers,

    Mark
