    MAckay is fishing OK

Took another couple out in the boat yesterday. It was a little bit crowded but we managed.

The fish were on the bite from the moment the first bait was dropped.

We lost count of the numbers of fish we caught but we estimated between 70 and 90 fish with more than 70 % being of legal size.

    the species were:

Stripies (spanish flag) lots of these

Blusbone . lots of these too

COD ..sizes to 94 cm ( 6 or 7 above the 70 cm mark thrown back)

Snapper.--Yes the type with the lump on the head

Grassy sweetlip up to 55cm ( caught dozens ..threw back some real thimpers)

    Red Emperor 63 cm

    various small sharks

I was using above legal size sweetlip as bait and got smashed up time after time on 15kg.

We had a great day kept 11 fish between 4 of us and those fish will provide 24 meals .

Will try to get some pics online.

Sounds like a really good day..

I guess asking where abouts you caught them would be a pointless question ?

We went out to 3 rocks and derwent island on fathers day and didn't get squat. Looking for some new places to try..

You are pretty right , I am not going to send you the GPS co-ordinates.

What I can tell you is that the spot is off Cape PAlmerstone about 4 or 5 km.

We would go down that way and fish in the general area as everyone else and catch stuff all. I decided to employ the old saying "do what everyone else doesn't "

I made mental notes of places I saw others fishing and after a few months I looked at the chart and located a few good looking spots where I hadnt seen anyone fish .

2 of the 3 spots I identified have been very very productive with good catches every outing.

I also fish a lot within 500 mts of the launching area. Everyone else drives straight past and the place never getss fished. food for thought.

I assume you are using legal lipper as whole live baits since it is illegal to fillet them at sea and use them as bait. At the very least it is not very clever to mention it on here. Just my thoughts! Would really hate to see someone convicted by that stupid law by mentioning it on here. Not sure I would ever condone the use of lipper for bait though. Surely you could find a shit fish to use. Trevally, iodine bream etc

Legal lipper thats for sure as mentioned .You assumed 100% correct.

In fact I havent caught a sub legal lipper there at all.

I had a cod or groper grab a 53 cm lipper and spit it out at the boat.

It was still alive but barely had a scale on it so I re rigged and sent it down with a 9/0 in its back , the result was the forementioned cod.

Bait fosh are very evasive. We spent the fiist hour and a half searching, trolling , seaching , trolling , casting the net etc etc and couldnt get a thing.
