    Cullen Island Snapper

Dad and i decided to go fishing, headed out to Sunken Reef SE of Sarina to chase mackeral. With no luck trolling or floating pilchards, that didn't last long, no fish, so we were off to Cullen Island another 10km to the east fo a bit of bottom bashing.

Within a few minutes we both had a small trout each and other stripeys and parrot fish. Solid bites all day, ended up with three trout, one sweetlip.

Ready to head home, dad cleaning up while i had my handline in with cut stripey and pilchard when i was hit, pretty hard. Thought was a big trout, pulled in a 2.5kg Snapper much to my surprise, very late in the year for here as they are usually gone in june / july.

Very happy with that little surprise, may go out again on Wednesday. Weather looks good!

Nice snapper. Were the macks totally absent or were they just shy?

No the mackeral weren't there at all but apparently they are catching spotties and school mackeral off Macaky at the moment.
