Brisbane River Mouth 20/09/05
Thought I'd make my first report, unfortunately it isn't for an overly productive trip....
Anyway I thought I'd do a quick trip in before work (started a couple of hours later than normal), so a close spot was on the cards. Hence I thought I'd try the River. Recent trips had been unproductive to say the least, but I was in need of a fix so off I went. I decided to target flathead around Boggy Creek and the sunken wall at the mouth after hearing some promising reports. I didn't get a touch at Boggy Creek, so I headed off to the sunken wall and sounded around the shallow side on the rising tide for a small hit on a pink micro mullet (had earlier tried platics in the smae area for nothing) from what I think was a bream. I then decided to try on the deep side with a Berkley turtle back worm in pumpkinseed. I had a good start with a just legal squire within the first 5 casts, and about 5 minutes later I got a 50cm flathead. The flathead had a heap of old mono wrapped around it, and some was actually embedded in its flesh!! I cut it off and let him go in better condition than when he started. I didn't get another hit from then on. On the way back to the ramp at Pinkenbah I tried some of the rocky shoals in the middle of the River for a squire, but the tide was running a bit hard and I didn't get anything. All in all it was enough to satiate my need for a fix, and I enjoyed myself thoroughly considering the weather and the fact I wasn't at work!!!
As an aside is it just me or is the River fishing poorly this year? I had a great season last year with plenty of fish, but they just haven't been around for me this year.
Catchya,
Simon

Heya SimonT
They aren't thick but there are still some decent fish in the river if you go looking for them. I don't fish it consistantly enough to say whether it is better or worse as I usually only slip in their for my young bloke to have some fun on bream or in very bad weather.
Legal flathead and squire is a good effort, and just being on the water is good for anything that ails ya I know I enjoyed fishing on the old wynnum jetty with my young fella a few days back.

I've landed a few good flathead on the river in the past year. Most around 45-55cm with biggest to 68cm. Mostly on plastics. If you search back in the reports you'll find a few from me.
