my effort was 13 flathead from 25cm to my PB of 84cm.
which i hooked while chatting with Dave green as we where haveing lunch.
he was impressed. he thought we had caught a heap more than we did cos we just netted the beast then kept on chatting very cool like.
he just kick our butt good.
just for the record. the winner Dave Green. scored 2111 points.
for the comp there where 2217 Flathead Caught and released, and of those
1092 where of the legal lenght 40cm.
biggest fish 91cm for the seniors.

    Re: My first Flathead Classic

Very dissapointed with my effort, as I lost two 70+ fish as the deckie could not get the Environet through the water in time to net the fish. One of them took a run and spat the hook, and the other broke the knot between leader and main line.

Tips for next years classic -
    1) use a big snapper/barra net (for the comp only of course)
    2) don't try and be clever using only 4lb line - who was I trying to fool
    3) get a lot better at tieing knots in 30kt + winds
    4) find more than one fishing spot that produces fish!

That said - Fay and I had a ripper time, and we were incredibly inpressed with the comradery of everyone on the water. We met a lot of people and had a fantastic time. We'll be back...... I just wish I had a bigger boat!

    Cheers

    Rob

    Re: My first Flathead Classic

speaking of which, the 5.5 galeforce handled the wind great .
we were airbourne on more than a few times saturday getting around the corner at crusoe island and down the straight to short.
we just held on and kept the throttle FLAT.
    like the name tag says.
Built Tuff to Handle the Rough.
and funny enough we didn't loose any gear over the side this year.
Flathead Classic and airbourne Galeforce Boats, the last 2 years anyway.
i think most guys that returned to jacobswell in tinnies friday and saturday
will agree, it was probably the wurst weather ive seen for the comp.
i have now got the first page of the teams placeings for the comp here.
Galeforce Boats made 26th place. with 1103 points.
with reguards to the fireline i used 4lb on my spin gear and 8 on the Calcutta 50. never got snapped off once no knot failures ether.
lots of dropped fish from spat hooks from all members of our team.
first day sore more than a dozen fish dropped at the boat some arround the 80cm mark and the other 2 team members had bust offs from hugh beasties.
hind sight is 20-20 so they say.
    till next year.

Hear I am , better late than never,
Great comp, well yeah Thursday was good until the wind started.
Cloud 9 Team was 44 and angler 46 for me, but don't feel you have to post my scores, very ordinary display.

Day 1 was good but the deckie hadn't hooked 1 so I made sure we found one for him. Unfortunately all I found for the rest of the comp for me was a couple of rats...

Rob See don't blaim the deckie mate, I saw those knots and u where never gonna win there.

JT and Marty, well done lads, looks like you'd betta start the pre fish for next year this week end if u wanna get near Greenie.

    Re: My first Flathead Classic

I thought it was really funny the way Paul Bert called out your guys name.
Were did you think up a name like that.
My team mate thought of it and he has fished under that team in previous Classic's, so I can't take credit .

I just checked the official standings and our team came 13th, I came 26th in the individual & my partner came 20th, he also took out longest tailor at 67cm not bad on 4Lb fireline & 12Lb leader. The tailor had the plastic right in his mouth too and the leader should have broken after the first 100yard run but didn't??? Hopefully I will have my boat by next year and will be able to fish alot better with an electric & sounder as we did it pretty tuff in the wind with no electric & the motor constantly running.

Still haven't got photo's as my mate with the camera is still on holiday's BASTARD!!! Justin if you read this post up some pics!!

    HI All,

Was a great weekend, didn't goes as well as I would have liked fishing wise, 90th individually and 55th as team but at least it was an improvment on last year. Hats off to Jamie and John as well as the rest of the boys for putting on a great event.

    Cheers

    Marty

I got some big fish on the last day, we took a gamble and fished some of the really windy banks hoping that other competitors wouldn't go there. The bigger fish helped the pts a bit more.
I would have liked to stick around and chat to all the guys but I was coming straight back to the restaurant everyday and working here till 10 and then driving back to nerang for the early morning start. Will try to plan it a bit better next year.
