Hays Inlet Flathead 25.9.05.
Kyle and I were out for a few hours in Hays Inlet with the plastics, a late start on the water around 8.30. Kyle got the first fish for the day around the rocks under the road bridge, a flathead around 40cm. Another flathead came to the boat soon after, around the same size and caught on a Berkley 4” Power Minnow. Kyle 2 me 0. The bottom of the tide saw us up a narrow gutter where another flathead around the 50cm mark came to the boat. We decided to abandon the boat in favour of walking the gutter and another 3 flathead around the 45 - 55cm mark come ashore. Kyle learnt the lesson of setting the drag on his reel a little heavy when he lost a good size fish well within 2 metres of his feet, not happy Jan . All this occurred when there was little incoming run in the tide, very little boat traffic in the area and a large amount of bait fish jumping around seemed to help.
Final count was 3 fish to the boat and 3 fish to the bank. What was interesting was the very small whiting which took a crack at a 3” Shad, he bit off more than he could chew it seems. The fishing slowed as soon as the run in tide picked up alot. Back in the boat and to the ramp around midday. A good day out.
Kyle with one of the better fish.
Regards Cameron
