Been hearing all sorts of stories about small Marlin hanging around Double Island lately. I just had to check it out. So went out and had a bit of a troll around.
Let me start by saying, we did NOT catch or sight any marlin. It was windy and uncomfortable. Eventually we saw some birds flapping around so went over and threw a slug at them. First and only cast caught a small Mack Tuna...
Then we continued to troll around and eventually found some pretty good looking structure. Cast out a couple of floating pillies and next thing I heard was the familiar scream of braid smoking through guides. It was time for the Spanish Inquisition....
A short while later I caught a small Spotted Mackeral, which unluckily got bitten in half by a big spaniard on the way to the boat. I know it was a spaniard because it followed the little spotty to just outside of gaff range. I assure you that fish would have made the ones above look small, but it couldn't be tempted (by us anyway) and actually sat under the boat barely moving for over a minute.
Good stuff steve. Did you get those spanish off double island or out on the wrecks??? There are quite a few around on the troll. I got a rat spanish of 6kg and dropped a couple larger ones last week at the similar area. Look forward to your feedback!
