Conditions for the trip accross
Had a bit of fun in the bay today. Every now and then I take my father in law over to Moreton sand hills to catch a feed of winter whiting, and today was one of those days.
It was good starting at gentlemans hours. Launched from Scarborough at about 6am and had a magic trip accross the bay. The whiting were on when we got there and many were a good size, best going 29.5cm and a lot over 28cm, which is great for winteries.
We also put out a few crab pots in the hope of some sandies. Every time we pulled the pots it was full of undersized sandies and star fish. Ended up only taking one legal crab.
The fish went quiet at the sand hills so we headed over to the Blue Hole and found some good ones biting there as well. My father in law took a good hit on his whiting outfit and after a solid fight bough aboard a double header of a whiting and one of those legendary bay snapper. (pic to follow)
Anyway, was a fun day out playing with the whiting and we kept 57 good ones between us.
Cheers,
Mark

Winteries have yellow fins Matt. The photo does make it look a bit like a summer whiting but must just be the angle as they were definately all winteries. I should know, i had to scale em ..... much easier than summeries though
Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark, probably an old tip- but one of those mesh catch bags help with the scaling- just add fish, tie off securly and hang over the side for awhile on the retun journey home.
