Just a quick report for the time being.
Fishing on Saturday was cancelled due to a strong wind warning, reducing it to only one day's fishing. The weather on Sunday was a bit interesting with winds reaching 25+ knots around 10am, then dropping.
42 boats fished the tourny. I think only 4 sailfish were tagged. First Class pinned 3 sails at the 18 Mile to take the major prizes and O'Fishal Business pinned 1 to win the 6.5m and under category and come second overall. There was some byctach, including a 17kg wahoo (won capture on countback) and 17kg cobia. Jay Svensson from Jay Jar Moo also got a mako shark. It was a fun tournament even with the lack of fish and it was great to see so many ausfishers getting into it.
Here is some of the bait we were fishing at Chardons Reef. I took this pic because of the big arch to the bottom left of the bait. Studying the photo a bit more there is also one in the middle right. It looked a lot better than this a few times as well starting only 10m from the top.
Here is the winning 6.5m and under boat and second boat overall - Ofishal Business a 2400 Offshore Kevlacat. We were fishing beside them and the third placed boat Watch Ya Problem most of the time but we didn't try liveys and didn't do any good.
nice photo's - we have had the black boat go past us a couple of times when heading out - always looks like a nice way to go to sea..........if you can afford the fule bill. Daisy Chains look interesting - need a magnifying glass for a closer look.
Trolling, trolling, trolling, trolling, trolling, trolling, trolling, trolling, trolling. We stuck to our game plan and didn't do anything else but troll. Didn't happen for us.
Good to catch up with all the Ausfishers. Went for a lap in CJs boat Saturday as the comp was postponed and tried for Gar at the basin. Didn't really happen on the change of the tide. Few sorry heads from Friday night at Fridays. Phill should have a heap of photos being official camera man for the weekend. Other memorable moments were CJ winning a prize for spewwing, along with heap of other people, Lee and Col's boat recieving a lot of positive attention and favourable comments, finally meeting Bugman and Brooksey and sampling some of their brew, the little boats high and dry in the morning, Channon on the rampage with all the old chooks, Jays Mako would have been pretty awesome, seeing Reel Diversion come in doing 35 knots, the session at Fridays and the boat ride to and from, the Reel Kool boys, the debut of Schlapper Man and the patented green t-shirts, etc., etc. Next tournament on the calender is Hervey Bay with motherships at the top of Fraser Island.
Bigmack
I think you may have actually been seeing either Outside Edge or Animal heading out. Watch Ya Problem hasn't been doing much fishing of late. The big arch is the shape of part of the bait school. It generally indicates there are predators feeding on the bait, pushing it up to the surface.
