Popped down to the coomera this morning to do my first run of my new bow mount electric. On the water by 730am and heading down to my spot. First drop of my plastic a small finger mark. Nice wat to start the day
Popped over to my other spot close by and first drop again I am on. My little Sahara 1500 is screaming and I am calling it a trevally for shore. Straight under the boat and out the other side heading 45meters away and the other side of the river. I am in chase trying to get used to the bow mount and keep pressure on the fish . Hand, feet wind, dodge boat its all happening. After 5 min of getting line on the fish and it powering away again I finally net my first Diamond Trevally.
What a pretty trevally, easily the best looking of them all.The trevally and all fish today took a Berkley 3" minnow on a 1/8 squidgy head with a 2/0 hook.
That's a variety of trevally on my to catch list for sure ... Well done Aaron! Were you fishing around moored boats/pontoons? Or did u catch it off natural structure/snag?
It's the coomera river mate... an estuary system that leads into the broadwater and weaves through "average" suburbs like hope island and the scantuary cove areas LOL. Alot like some reaches of the noosa river system in alot of ways i guess, although not as expansive.
1337, I was not fishing around moared boats or natural snags as such, just a marker pole in the middle of the river. I think structure is just part of the fishy equation, I also look for tidal flow, back eddies etc and fish these with structure to get fish. As the saying goes "No flow,no go"
Masterdusky, the boat/jetski traffic was rediculous!! Thats what made me give it up by lunch time. That time of year I suppose will definately fish the area agin after school hol are finished. I will stick to my dams for now or try the brissi river.
What river system were you fishing ? I fish a spot with plastics in the noosa river that sounds very similar to what you described and constantly get bream and trevally
HI Aaron,
I fish coomera a bit. From the M1 bridge to Sanc Cove is an approved waterski speed zone, after 7am its a nightmare. Stay either side of that zone and theres less traffic.
Nice trevor mate, Ive been getting bigeye trevors.
I have also been getting into the big eye trevors up to 30cm or so. Not huge but good fun.I have been fishing from sanctuary cove down towards the mouth. Cannot wait till the silly season is over. Surprised really how the fish are not put off by the boat traffic.
