4:45am and the first livebait is in the bucket, not 10 minutes later tailor on the rampage....
Just after sunrise i get another decent fish and release it as i have enough tailor for me and the neighbours, this one has chewed the trace so snip it goes and tie a new knot. I wet the line and pull the knot tight, snood knot on a 7/0. well it just does not come together quite right but i put some weight to it and declare it good enough....
Choosing the largest yakka around 9" (yes big yakka I say!) I set the hook in place and half an hour later the penn 9500ss screams 'grab me quick!" oh it good to be alive! penn in hand i pull up and tighten the drag; this is good line still screaming off and the ? is heading out to sea... then the line goes limp... on inspection the snood has come undone. I knew it was not quite right when i tied it... never again. It pains me to think I was the reason the fish never got to give me the fight it had in it only to get a good feed and a stylish 7/0 lip ring.
By now the tourist have showed up asking a million Q's and casting dead pilchards over top of my livie..... time to go home.
bonnies were taking small slugs about 2" good fun on light gear none of which i had. Penn9500ss with 20lb......
the sunrise photo is not of the wall its some other secret location that looks just like the wall. LOL
Hey Gerard,
Nice fish mate, I think I know what wall you are on, did you catch the ferry?
Nothing worse than gear failure , especially when you have a good hook up, could be there next time. I’m coming down at the end of Jan; maybe I’ll bring some surf gear as well as the whiting gear.
Cheers,
Chong
