Gladstone for a week, slow but fun

Spent the last week up at Gladstone visiting some friends and managed to do a bit of exploring and do some fishing around the area (all landbased). Unfortunately the week was pretty uneventful as far as fishing goes but I still had a good time. First off we tried the marina at night using some herring as bait that we'd just caught in the castnet. Spent a couple of hours here and got 1 bream, 1 moses perch and 1 grunter.

Went to a dam called Lake Callemondah to get some mullet for bait on one of the days, there were 2 young guys fishing the lake, and while we were busy gathering bait one of them got onto a Barra, and what a barra it was!! I wandered over to have a look and it was a good 90cm+. I haven't barra fished before but it was every bit as big as pictures I had seen and it was certainly impressive to see such a large fish in the flesh. I couldn't believe that a fish that size could be taken from such a small body of water. Needless to say we returned to this area to fish a couple of days later but could only manage a couple of undersize cod. It is a great little system around there though with lots of surface action and baitfish and is definately a place I want to spend more time fishing next time I get up there.

Also fished a place my mate says they call "Black Harrys", seemed like it would be a good fishing spot but all we managed were some undersize bream and grunter. Had some fun also at the back of the power station, where again there was quite a bit of surface action, and we saw more then one barra jumping out of the water at this spot. Unfortunately we couldn't get onto any (even though it was closed season, would've been still nice to land one for photos). Sorry no pictures of the week, but I had a great time up there, and it was certainly a learning experience seeing as though I had never barra fished before or used hardbody lures, I think a bit more practice is needed, but fun nevertheless, cheers.

There would be some nice fish in callemondah by now, it was stocked quite a few years ago. U neeed to berley up at the marina. Black harrys when the threadfin salmon are running is excellent.

Give a man a fish, he'll eat it and fall asleep.

Teach a man to fish and he'll endanger an entire species
