Pine River late afternoon session 04-01-05

Hi all, most of you would remember my post b4 xmas last year with me showing 2 under sized Jacks i managed to get from the pine, well yesterday afternoon i got rewarded for all the time and money i have put into fishing and chasing Jacks in particular!! the funny thing was that i wasn't really targeting Jacks!
I wanted to position us above a hole i found on the sounder that showed some fish and was a little upset to find the boat swinging the other way and only sitting in 3foot of water We decided to give it a go at least for a bit as most of the Bream we have caught up there in the past have been in a couple of inches of water right on the edge. I had a 3" pumpkinseed bassminnow on a 1/16 jig head and was seeing if there were any Bream around the wall that would take it b4 the sun went down, well it only took 2 casts before i landed a very Pretty 40cm Mangrove Jack

It started getting to dark for the plastics after another 1/2 hour so we went to bait, We landed about 6 Bream of size, the biggest being 29cm. no more Jacks but we did have a couple of Live mullet disapear from our live rigs. in the end we had to give it up as a storm was comming and i didn't really want to sit through a storm with a Graphite rod in my hands!!

    Cheers

Nice catch.. Feels good you finally do get rewarded.. How far up the pine??
Can always count on getting a feed of bream from the good old pine, which is surprising considering how hard the place gets hit!!
    Well done

Cheers Benno! Was near the concrete slab wall, low tide i landed the plastic hard up against the bank then worked it along with the tide.

nice jack there, is the concert slab that you are talking about near the old paper mill, one the left side on your way to strahtpine,
Have tried for some jacks there but had no luck only loosing a few live mullet.

Great report mate, a nice healthy looking jack too, good to see for the pine. Did he hit the kill tank or did you release him?

Thanks Guys!! Its a fish I won't forget about for a very long time

Sproulesy you can't miss the slabs!! I head up there from Deep water bend, they are a fair way up and on the right side after you go past the yellow X for the drainage pipe from the paper mill (i think thats where it comes from??) It wouldnt take as long if you came from Lawnton but i havent figured out that streach of river at low yet, don't want to have to buy a new Prop or worse!! I would prefer to spend the money on another bag of Plastics

Rob yeah he came home with me. Its the first legal Jack i have ever caught and will be the first one I have tasted for over 8 years! If I manage to get another one this seasion especially if its up the pine i will let him go I think its great to see that alot of people on this forum are letting there Jacks go! as well as other fish too of course, I just hope that the idea of releasing some of our fish filters down to other fisherman and becomes a more common act. Just emagine if everyone did this you never know in 10 years time we might be catching as many Jacks as Bream in our Rivers

    Cheers

    Hi Brandon,

Great fish all it takes is puting the time in.

It's a much shorter trip to the slabs launching from the ramp at Leis Park near the railway bridge.

I would'nt consider it if it's half tide or less as the channel from the ramp is both narrow and shallow.

There's some good flathead banks heading downstream from there.
