    7.1.06 seaway trip

Well after coming home from mooloolaba on friday after a couple of weeks of very little sleep and a lack of good sessions, Krisso (Fritzy) thought it would be a great idea to stuff catching up on sleep and hit the seaway for a late arvo/ nite fish with Asho (Jackash), my bro tom n me, and honestly who could blame him! haha even the shocking weather conditions and cyclonic winds couldnt stop us. On arrival, we definately asked the question 'what are we doing', and believe me that went through my head many times as i was swimming the drag net at 6 oclock in windy, rainy and very cold conditions, seriously thinking i would be eaten by a shark. Anyway as we made our way down to the seaway, Asho noticed some nearby surface action on a beacon and luckily we had the mack set ups, rigged with 2 raiders. After 4 casts i got slammed then dropped one, as the familiar zzzzzz sound screamed from Krisso's reel and 5 -10 mins we boated a beautiful big eye Trevally, despite several calls it was a spottie and other such pelagics haha. Anyway by around 6.40 we had boated 3 lovely big eye trevally and had dropped several more, and had made the decision to use the livies, in the canals to get shelter. I put on a big live mullet and a 7/0 hook to try to entice something big that was lurking around in sheltered waters. Suprisingly it was only a few minutes later when i felt a pull and some extra weight on the line. However after one small run, i wound in one very very dead ingulfed mullet. Had another go with a similiar size mullet only to lose the tail, and then another attempt but bit hard hooking up with only one hook. Anywayz, we headed back to the boat ramp, exhausted and wet but very very pleased with our reward of 3 very nice trevally for persistance.
pics will follow.. Cheers Danny Shep

Good work lads .... a few nice trevors there. Just reward for sitting it out in crap conditions.
Krisso, you may have earned yourself the title of 'Mr. Trev' ... if you hadn't of caught that monster flatty whilst at Mooloolaba, I'd be suggesting a change of tactics. lol
    Well done boys,
    Herby
p.s. Danny - bummer about the mullet not being inhaled properly. Could've been a jack perhaps!!!

AHaha what a sh!t trip!! Was raining like there was tomrrow, there was some deadset huge waves in the river which quite easily wouldve swamped our boat, and the wind was just unbearable.... To make matters worse, i spotted the trevs, but was driving at the time, so by the time i had driven the other 3 around chasing there trevs they were nowhere to be seen and id missed my go! Still great fun though. And herby it wouldve been a monster jack... in the pic the mullet looks small, but it was probably close to 35 cm that thing!!! Was a bloody fun night and good to be rewarded for our persistence.
    Cheers

haha well said asho, was good driving though haha. Yeh Herby, whatever it was, it was big and heavy. My 80lb leader was real fraid aswell. Would have been a horse of a jack if it was, mullet was close to 30cm

    Cheers Fellas,
did end up not a bad trip at all. It was all go at one stage, bummer that Jackash didn't hook one but thats fishing!!
Herb, what are you up to this weekend mate? Think i have cricket but would be keen to pull another seaway trip at some stage if the opportunity arose.
Cuzza, that is exactly what i recon mate. We had three runs from the buggers and missed em every time. Recon we either need a bigger hook or a different rig for em. Any tips would be great as those things are GREAT fun on a line?
    Cheers Fritzy
PS. Do you eat em cuzza?? If so how do you fillet/skin them. Last time i tried i destroyed my brand new knife...
