Pumicestone Passage Overnighter 7-8/1/06
Departed Donnybrook ramp Saturday 1500 and found there was too much water over the usual yabbie haunts. Anyhoo headed up to Caloundra to find a constant 20 knots plus and not much comfort apart from the trusty XXXX Gold.
Left the wind tunnel and headed towards Donnybrook for about 10 ks and made anchor for the night. My deckie clearly stated there were not going to be any fish there but much to his surprise we landed several 30cm plus whiting, a few grunter, bream and tarwine. All up we boated 17 good sized fish and polished off about 32 cans of grog!
I rained throughout the night so a good sleep was welcomed.
The highlight of the trip was when my flimsy light surf rod went "TWANG, BANG, SMASH". The pressure was so intense that the glow stick that was firmly attached to the tip simply flicked off into the water. What the @%ck was that. Much to my surprise and delight it was a healthy 32 cm Jack which was quickly released. My first ever and what a thrill. Funny thing is that even if it had have been larger I think I still would have let it go. At least I can now say I have caught the hunter of the estuary. I dont tell many people i caught on a #6 hook and a bit of worm!!!
Apart from that a good trip was had.
Until next time
Madman over and out!
