    Caloundra 27/01/06

    Hey fellas,
snuck down to spot X caloundra on friday evening after work hoping to pin a GT or two on a spinner. Lots of fresh (brown stained water) big sea, and onshore wind made fishing difficult to say the least. Started very slowly, local fella fishing with bait said there had been the odd chopper tailor around but not much else. Soon as he moved with his bait, threw in a cast where he had been fishing, and saw a handful of giant tailor jumping out of the water nailing a bait school in the whitewater about fifty meters off the rocks. Had a few BIG fish follow the raider without a take, until finally after increasing the spinning speed, got nailed by something big and heavy. Knew it was a big tailor as it took a fair bit of line and stayed deep, really deep (i have found that the big fish tend to do this anyone else agree?). Anyhow after about a five minute fight, monster of a tailor jumped for the first time right beside the rocks, and my raider went flying skyward. No hits after that but an exciting evening anyhow. Would have been easily my best tailor to date - looked like it would have gone close to a metre long!@!
Ahh well, there is always next week!!
    Cheers Fritzy
PS. Any tips with staying connected on raiders when tailor are jumping in close would be much appreciated. Have lost many more big ones than i have caught when they are jumping just off the beach or rocks, and it has happened on both trebles (like i was using on friday) single 4/0 or 6/0 and double 4/0 or 6/0's.

Just a thought chris try and put a couple of 4/0 or 6/0's back to back on a slightly larger split ring,

It may give them more free movement and if one grabs then the other may hook somewhere also.

Sounds like a good spot. I'm up that way now but don't really have the footwear to try the rocks. Do you have any other suggestions for the area?

Dear oh Dear Mr Fritzy, fishing in my front yard and u don't even let me know.... Hang on a minute, did you say u went out Fri night after work. Wasn't that when all the local Ausfishers where meeting at the pub, and the Brissy boy comes up to steal out GT's.

I wonder why Trent (the tailor) threw the hook, cause he saw it was a Brissy boy when the locals where at a meeting...

Hey joel bare feet are sufficient at spot x if you've got an 8 footer plus and some raiders PM us before the next high tide around dusk and we will probably be there...

I]ve been having the same trouble with tailor throwing the raiders back at me when they jump.

I thought replacing the trebles with a couple of singles might work but I know you already do that so I'm stumped.

Thanks for that Armoz. Unfortunately none of my rods (apart from the big beach rod) are that long, but I'd definitely like to give it a go anyway, or even just watch you guys to learn a thing or two. Will have to keep my eye on the tides. Thanks mate.
