    Mud/tangalooma 12/02/06

Woke up at 0230 and got ready by 0330.We were on our way to the petrol station when it started raining. We met up with Tim and Amanda and waited at the petrol station for the rain to stop. We decided to leave about 4.30 and then it started to rain again. We sat at the ramp untill we could see the orange from the sun then we were off. We stopped under Hornibrook bridge and waited for the rain to stop again. Then at last we headed over to Mud. When we got there from a choppy trip we decided to anchor up and fish some reef on the north side. We fished with dead bait and caught small squire, grassies striped fish, catfish and even a black remora. Then we saw some rain coming. We decided to head over to Moreton since Tim hasn’t been there since he was a kid. We stopped at some tuna but couldn’t hook up so we stopped at our bait ground. We caught a few pike,2 calamari squid and a heap of grinners,we chucked a pike out and then we got a big puffer fish of some sort. Then we chucked out another pike and then something had it and then spat the hook, and when we wound it up we had a grinner all tangled up in the line with the hook in it.then we chucked another pike out and had a good and decent run by something big. On the way back it was really blowing but finally got to the boat ramp, then we went home and cleaned up the boat all before 4.00pm.

thanks for the great day out peter (rainbowrunner) and kaimen (bassamundi) me and amanda had a hoot,i swear between us all we would have caught at least 50 grinners (dam things)...the rain was pretty heavy at times and my dodgy garbage bag rain coat didnt really do anything as i still seemed to be soaked .....next trip ill have a tld 25 with a good rod and ill be chucking a live pike out to chase some monsters....ohh and probably a proper rain coat

    Good story and great pics

We ended up at Tanga's and then Cowan, Great trip 2/3 way over till it rained and brought up a few bigger waves. then the trip back was a bit better in the following sea but had a lot of spray coming from the bow on every fourth wave or so. About 45-50 mins each way from Nudgee

    Bassa,

That's an epic journey, rain in an open boat sucks big time but better than being at work anyday.

Can't quite see the pic all that clearly, but your puffer fish looks like it may be a stargazer.

Better than sitting around getting nothing though

    Re: Mud/tangalooma 12/02/06

    nah wasnt a stargazer
a puffer or spiny puffer of some sort caught on the surface
thought I should throw it back, could be poisonous
