    aussiefool,aussie bass and plastic

It all started on Monday while comming back from K'cliff shops and saw a mate fishing in a drain outlet at Jenners' corner (at Chinderah). Now I gotta tell ya it was mud in the river and black soup comming out of the drain but there was already a thumper of a bream on the grass and with a min. or two out came a Aussie bass. I've gotta tell ya there was no way I would ever think of putting a line in to that muck.Anyway next morning (Tues.) I was up early and with no ausfish to go to I grabed my little rod and though why knot nothing to loose and only thing I had for "bait" was a few s.p's so what the hell I need the practice with those waist of money peices of cr**. with in 5 mins I got the first bass quickly followed by 2 more then it was the breams turn 2 leagle size one under and finished with a small bass again. I hit the same spot again in the avo for 2 more bass and 2 bream. So maybe these s.p.'s do have something going for then afterall???

All of the fish were set free to swim and fight an other day as I do not eat bream and never have had bass ( anyone know what they chew like?)
    anyway have a great day

You just never know do you.
Some spots just cry for a fish and don't get a touch and some spots you wouldn't think a dog fish would live there and you have a great old time.
    Good on ya Aussiefool.
Perch don't chew too bad at all. But my taste buds may be less decerning then others.

Good on ya aussiefool! I love reading posts written by converts from bait to SP's. Once you are hooked on them it gets awfully expensive.......
Its not that you need to buy a lot, its more like an obsession & each puchase fuels the next.
Different species/different plastics & so on.
    Its endless!!!!
Do you think the bass came from upstream or out of the swamps in from the drain?
Anyhow, hope you stick with it mate.
    cheers
    Toppy

Bass are ment to be ok eating out of brackish water. But if you don't like bream you probably won't like bass either. Most people do as you did and release wild bass. Anyway good catch, it always pays to to give any drain a fish regardless of what the water looks like.

Top effort mate.!! Bass as far down as Chinderah . Well at least its a closer drive than going to murwillumbah. .

This rain has really turned the river on its head, but at least the swell fell flat so the river should clean up fairly quickly.

Good onya with the plakkies .

I spoke with the proprietor of pottsville bait and tackle on sunday, He said a bloke brought 3 fish in to him in a live tank as he didn't know what they were. he told him "they're Bass mate, and you better let two of go back or you'll be in strife"(they were all over 35cm). He asked where he got them and the fella said they were all taken under the blackrocks bridge at pottsville????!!!!
Thats less than 2km from the creek mouth. This was a few weeks ago.

Aussiefool, I regularly probe those drains at chinderah. Have'nt caught bass there tho'. Actually I have'nt caught a bream on a plastic or hardbody lure yet. Those mongrel red things keep jumping in front of them .
Oh yeah, Bass taste gr8, you should wash the slime off first but don't gut or scale. when you fillet, don't cut into the gut area, try and run the knife over the rib bones without cutting into the gut area. if you break the bile sack....the cat will probably turn up it 's nose to it. then skin the fillet and they're delicious.

That said, I don't make a regular thing of eating wild bass. I kept some recently but only the poor bugger that copped a hook in the eye (and one of his closest friends). best to let them breed. get them up in the stocked impoundments.

    cheers, Roo.
