G'day fello fisherman, Well did another trip up to Hervey Bay and thought i would try my luck again around my favourite spot. Well this time no trout but found our myself and my brother catching 2 big flatty and 1 big grunter all on 10lb line and one flaty on a 3" pumpkin seed gulp and the other two on baby bass. Got the fish about an hour before high and i could not get any photo's of the flatty but mine went about 60cm and my brother's went a bit bigger than mine, but his snapped at the leader at his feet and the grunter put up a huge fight eventually getting him in and finally my brother had the camera at this time
Scott 15. The last photos that Mick posted were of two nice coral trout that were caught off the same sand bank.Good on you Mick those grunters are one of the best eating fish in the straits. Bob.
Thanks fellas, it was the first time i caught a grunter and yeah do they fight He took it like no tomorrow With light line i had to play it safe so i had to do a bit of swimming
hey mick,
have been getting fish of similar size from a similar area in the bay yeah, they go hard, ive been getting em on 8lb and they take a while to get in. if ur up there fishing again, and you think theres grunter around, put on a big green banana prawn on a 1/0 longshank, and hang on
cheers
Bloody awesome fish and looks like an awesome spot to fish. Nothing compares to pulling quality fish off the banks with softies.
Good on ya

hey mate nice grunter. I am goin up there on the 26.03 for a week ( on my honeymoon) unfortunately the mrs doesn't want me to take my boat . Can you give me a rough idea where to try land based? Any advice apreciated. Cheers.
Mick thats a snodger grunter mate.
I can imagine what the adrenaline rush was like when you hooked up.
The old baby bass does it once again.
You sure are getting some quality fish from that spot X.
I will catch up with you in a few weeks time.
Cheers Brent
Thanks again fellas, Marty75 there is one spot a "low tide only" is about half way down the main pier and you walk down the ladder and throw along the bank, and since Hervey Bay isn't that big of place you can drive one end to the other and find alot of potential spots. One thing i do recommend is fish from Dead low to High and you should see yourself with some fish hopefully. One thing i have noticed is that you have to put the hard yards in for the fish but you get good rewards
