Decided last night to take the morning off work and go for a quick fish.
Hit the water about 6:15am (was chilly too!) The wind was already up blowing about 10knots almost Westerly...Straight down the river. Hrrmmm Not such a good start but will give it a go anyway.
Tryed all my normal spots which are yet to fail all for nothing. Not even a touch things werent looking good at this stage and i almost called it quits.
Decided to have a quick drift over close to the mangroves and see if i could get out of the wind abit behind a small kink in the river.(By small i mean about a 5m point that sticks out partially blocking the wind)
With a change of spots i decided i would drop back from my normal 3" plus SP's and give the 2" Gulps a go.
2nd cast and im on to a small flathead about 40cm quick release and were back fishing from that point on for about the next hour and a half i landed a flathead almost every 3rd cast all between 35-48cm keeping 3 for dinner.
I also landed my PB bream on SP's going just on 40cm plus about a dozen smaller ones.
Every single fish had gorged itelf silly on the whitebait that were schooling up all around the boat. It was trully insane fishing and the best trip on SP's ive had to date
.
Things slowed for about the next 30mins as the tide swung around. This saw the numbers of fish drop but the size increase. In the next hour after the change i boated 4 Flathead all between 50-60cm and a lovely 65cm speciemem She really pulled far above her weight as i was sure it was a ray at first. All released as i already had a nice feed.
A truly brilliant morning on the water and one i wont forget in a hurry.

Hrrmm might need stronger hooks.....
