I would as a resident be happy to pay a yearly figure of the type you mention Barry, but I don't know anyone else here who would. They think that this is their private little paradise and permits are for other people. Same people are subsidised for their ferry costs over the river. You just wouldn't believe the selfish, biased, uncaring attitudes of many of the people that own properties here. (think I mentioned that to you last time you were here) But to be fair, our beaches are public property and to shut out people through economic means is not acceptable. I believe that weekly, monthly and yearly vehicle permits be available and day trip permits to tenants of the resort and camping facilities at Lake Coorooibah. This creates incentive for people to stay at these locations rather than camp on the beach. And I think you will find that is what council are likely to do. It would also stop the majority of people travelling to Fraser from using Teewah beach as a highway as they would then have to purchase 2 vehicle permits. Of course the ferry owners are fighting hard against the introduction of permits, but it's a battle they are not going to win. There is likely to be a capped monthly camping permit system adopted which when some are only staying for a weekend or week, will reduce numbers at any one time quite significantly.(depending on the capped number allocated) Means however that advance bookings would be required as is the case in many locations elsewhere in Aus and overseas. Bit of a pain I agree, but nobody has come up with a better suggestion yet. And Barry, it's good here during the week - I hate friday afternoons and love sunday afternoons.
