    Bay 20th may

1 of my mates called me on the way to work yeterday just letting me know he'd boated an 83cm snapper and hooked up again while i was talking to him. Called him back a bit later and he ended up with 3 fish 83, 68 and 65cm fish.

We decided we would go out and give it a good hit this morning. Left Cleveland boat ramp bout 2.30am and after gettin home from a" QUICK" bream spin yesterday afternoon at 10.30pm I was pretty buggered.

Hit spot A with the plastics for a couple of hours not even a single fish so moved to spot B couple of grinners here but no snapper. Moved back to spot A and anchored up for a bait fish thinking it would fire just on sun up. 2 shovelies and and 2 grinners. A quick couple of drifts with the plastics saw 2 more grinners but no snapper so headed north to foul grounds.

Get to the foul grounds bout 7 fished plastics for 1 40cm squire. weather was good so thought we'd head up to the 4 beacons as the weather was pretty good. Half way up there the wind picked up and copped a pounding. Get to the 4 beacons tried jigging some bait but not 1 bait fish to be seen.

Not liking the way our trip had paned out started to pound back down the bay got about half way back through the paddock and the wind dropped off again. Saw a few longtails chopping so chased them round for a bit. I was throwing 1 of glens rods and hooked up only to have his joining knot pop on me. What else can go wrong today? Was not happy. Lucky the fish were still on the chew Glen hooked the next fish in between Harries and Mud took him about 20 mins to land. Found the school again and me and steve had a double hook up. I got my fish to the boat pretty quick about 5 mins or so and turned out to be a good sized mack tuna for the bay. Steves fish wanted to play funny buggers and took about 25-30 mins to land. A nice longtail. After this they got a bit skittish and was to much effort them. headed back to the ramp.

Was good to finally boat some fish after a dismal morning. Dunno what was wrong with the snapper not on the chew 4 us anyway.

    Till next time cheers Whytey

P.S. Glen was being a smart arse while putting on his sunscreen. Thats the white suff on his chin. Just thought id let you's know as i dont want rumours starting.

Gee I wish I would have found Mac tuna that size yesterday I was chasing schools but they were a lot smaller. The fish we caught were feeding towards the south and had no birds at all on the schools. I was motoring blind and in the general direction they were feeding after their last surface and hoping to be in the right spot which we were, but its a bit harder without the birds giving you there position.I stuck with the schools we were spinning, because we couldn't see any birds working on fish anywhere else. Did you guys have birds on the schools and what size slugs were you using?

Hey Chief. Yeah we had a few birds workin. The fish really came on the chew around the turn of the tide. At one stage we could see about 5 or 6 different schools of longtail and a pretty decent size school of smaller macks that we didn't bother chasing. All our fish were caght on 5 inch zooms. I've found that the plastics are good to use as you can use heavy heads for casting distance. Most of the time the rods are rigged for snapper jigging, so just throw them when we come across a school. Most green colours work well like baby bass, watermelon and pumpkin seed
