On Saturday my dad and I went out to tangalooma in one of my dad’s friend’s boat (john). We went to tangalooma to try and find some bait but all we could manage was the grinners >so we kept one for live bait, so off we went up to bulwer ledge to look for some yakka and slimy mackerel and we succeeded. We got at least 10 whiptails and then we found a school of yakka and slimy mackerel.
So we stopped and caught a few and anchored over some rock were we found the bait and put out our live baits. We sat there for a while with one hit and then a boat come past and they were onto a good fish, they got it in and it was a descent cobia.We sat there for a bit and then went to curtain artificial reef and anchored up. We drifted a bit because the anchor didn’t hold >
It was a pretty rough trip over but we still manage with the 100 horse power motor.When it was half way there the wind fully dropped off and it made the trip comfortable. When we got to mud we looked around for reefs and found a bit of life so we stopped in 13 foot of water. We burlied up and chucked some pike out. We then chucked on some pike and managed a whiptail, we then went to herring and I pulled up a nice 37cm tailor, next twenty minutes gone by I pull in another fish but this time it was a good squire (pic).
We then sat there for a bit longer with no more descent fish except a very small wobbegong and a shark on the live baits, a pretty good hit on my dad’s rod but he missed it. So we sat there for a bit and decided to go and have a look for some more reef and drift. We then packed up the stuff and headed home in search of surface activity. We got to the boat ramp and packed up and went home.
All in all we had a pretty good day.
