Mate the hawkesberry is a huge system, land based or boat there is always a chance of a big jewie, hairtail, tailor, kingies bream whiting flathead leather jacket and the lsit goes on. Fish the river with fresh hawkesberry river prawns on the least amount of lead possible and some top bream can be caught in any of the estuarys. Middle of June ill be flying down there to try to get onto some jew, good luck mate!
Check out the Adam Royter DVD, can buy at BigW Kmart and tackle shops and maybe a starters pack of plakkys too. Then from there start practising and collecting more and more and more, trust me it never stops...........
Sorry, I don't have many land based spots to point you at, although can point you at several great spots if you are in a boat.
One land based that springs to mind is on the old wharves at Brooklyn (although watch your step) - Also under the freeway bridge can be good (watch for broken glass) Have caught some nice fish there including jewies, bream, flatties, pike eels and heaps of catfish. Soft plastics well worth a try, or if you prefer bait use bottle squid if you can get them, fresh mullet strips/gut works really well on the bream and flatties.
I used to live on the river and know some great spots for stonker bream, monster flatties, and sand crabs - All boat based though
Geez I miss jumping in my tinny from the backyard and scooting out for a fish down there!
