Ventured out last night for my first tailor mission of the year with my work mate Mick. Now mick is a serious fisherman has had 40 years experience in moerton bay so he pretty much knows every hole bump stick rock whatever you could think of that is in they bay he knows about it. So took him out to remind me of spot X at manly where he knows the tailor hang out.
Arrived at spot x in about 1m of water and asked Mick, Mick you sure you know where are going mate there is no water here buddy let alone fish
Things started out pretty slow with not a sign of a fish then all of a sudden Mick yells out Tinn your rod its going by the time I dropped the one rod I was fishing with and grabbed the other it was off damn bloody hell. I said it must have been a rock or something cause there is no way there would be fish where we where fishing.
Next cast out pillie hits the water and smash got it. Yep it was a tailor 40cm long not bad I said. We ended up only catching 2 more tailor 2 hammer head sharks about 1.2m long each a 1.5m gummy shark thoses sharks put up a good fight in 1m of water. Anyhow the tailors were slow so decided to go home and get some sleep and give it another go another time. I suggested before we go we should do a small drift.
Within 1 minute of drifting my ugly stick rod with 40lb line and 40lb steel trace goes off like a steam train zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz bloody hell what the F... is that. I have never seen something take line like this before think of the biggest snapper you have seen take line and multiply it by 20 times and that is how it ran. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz whlie the boat was being towed tighted the drag up still zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz bloody hell Mick yells out you are going to get spooled
Anyhow Mick starts in the back ground umm its got to be a shark or a ray or a catfish or could it be a King Salmon don't know he says all I said was this thing makes a king salmon look like a whiting. So I was hoping that T1 trophy fish would be replaced by my own bigger trophy fish
