70cm Bay Squire
Once again, i went to spot X at Green Island for a night run. The carpark at Wello Point was full, there was alot of boats out and i don't blame them, you would have to be stupid to miss a night like last night. I left the ramp at 6.00pm, wind was 0 - 5 N/NE tide was high at about 8.00pm and moon was good. Drove past my wello haunt first, 20+ boats lined up, and very little room to get a good spot. I continued to Green Is, again 20+ boats over the wreak and on the DO, by this time there was a total glass out. The allround white boat lights looked like candles on the water, and you could hear a pin drop in a boat that was 100 metres away. After 40 minutes of not even a bite Bang!! 1 of my reels started peeling line off like you would not believe. 5 minutes later 70cm Squire came abourd . This is my PB squire i have been waiting 4 years to catch, i was very pleased with myself. 1&1/2 hours past and there was very little happening, so i pulled anchore and went to Wello and found a spot between the other 20 or so boats there. Within 20 minutes my reel went screaming again, squire went 62cm, not bad at all . 5 minutes later 42cm Squire came aboard, i thought by this time things were starting to go a little slow, then the tide changed the boat swung 180 degrees and i had to move. I was in the way of the boat fishing next to me and he was there first. After moving 20 meters or so and re anchored, my reel went off again landing a 56cm squire. I stayed in this spot for 2 more hours and got nothing but a 28cm squire so I called it a night and went back to the ramp. When i got back there was 5 other boats on the ramp that where all fishing in the same spot and had got nothing, and were all flipping out about my 70 cm squire . I don't know what they were doing wrong, maybe they were using servo bait, big No No for trying to catch nice squire, they like the fresh stuff that does not mean if the bait packet says FRESH!! . I catch my own bait. The only thing servo bait is good for is feeding the palicans down at the waters edge . Anyway gotto go for now, i will hopefully be doing a monday night trip if all is fine. I will post the pics from last night soon

Nothing at all wrong with a fish like that! It's one that you will remember, so, well done.
