Being on holidays and having a fishing comp this weekend, it seemed as good a time as any to have a "look" trip. So, packed the mighty V-Sea and put in at Manly about 0345 to go and fish the early morning high at the Rouse. All was looking well, with just a light breeze and clear skies. This is where things went bad. The fuel primer bulb went on strike; no fuel, no go. Had no choice but to put her back on the trailer and go home, much to the Minister's surprise. Got another bulb and fitted it whilst watching the best fishing morning of the week come and go with me not playing. Oh well, maybe the evening shift will be the go. Did a bit of fast talking to get some babysitting organised and I was away, putting in at Manly just on 1530. Fuel is up, motor roars into life, all is well and I'm swinging on the anchor at the Rouse just after 1600. Mirror flat bay on the way over, with a high tide about 1845 and plenty of moon up, the world was looking good. It started to blow out of the East not long after my arrival, but it dropped back to a gentle little breeze by dark. Got 1 Snapper (5.5-6kg) just before high tide and released a couple of "just unders". Lots of boat noise, with the other boat there lifting and dropping his anchor constantly and motoring around. Incidentally, another boat turned up later on and literally parked on top of me (######!!) Anyway, things went quiet after high tide, except for the Barracuda, which were there in force as per usual and took a couple of hooks, etc. They were hitting anything with bait on it or anything that shined, including swivels. I've actually got a fair bag of them in the freezer now. I'd had enough by this time, so I pulled stumps and headed home, back in Manly Harbour at 2100. All in all, not a bad day.
