Went to the 'Pin on Saturday morning just gone, with the goal of catching a few lizards on SP's. I was amazed at how much the sand formations had changed since I was there only 3 weeks ago. At the moment, there doesn't seem to be as much baitfish-holding structure around the actual entrance, and as a result, I thought I would struggle to get bites.
I was there for about 3 hours, and didn't get a single bite until the tide turned and started coming in after about an hour. After that, I got one keeper of 55cm, and 2 throw-backs of 36 and 39cm. Also got a couple of other bites that didn't hook up. The wind was getting up a bit by the time I left at 9am.
the lure for those interested, is a 3 inch Renosky tail (impossible to find in shops now unfortunately), and a McCubbin 3/8 ounce jig head.....the best flattie lure combo I know of.
try "The Tackle Warehouse" at Coorparoo, last time i was there they had renosky shads, but if they don't ask them to order some for you. No doubt they are a great plastic but very expensive.
Yeah fish boy, I was landbased.....so I walked the banks, of which there plenty!
marty, thanks for the tip mate....I'm a regular customer of that Coorparoo store, and the fellas there constantly say they can't get Renosky shads in for me?! Last time I tried was probably a few months ago though, maybe I should ask them again.
G'Day RB, Give Kevin a call at Lureworld if he hasn't got them he will go out of his way to track stuff down for you,you could also try the "Swiks" in the minnow that have a good looking mullet type profile I'm very keen to give some of these a swim this weekend at the ausfish meet n greet at the pin. Cheers Touchy.><>
Hi Scotty, yeah I couldn't see any 3 inch versions there, and from experience, the 2.5 inch versions don't have quite the required tail movement. Call me fussy, but it seems to make a difference to me.
The next best tails I have found are "drop bear" coloured squidgey tails that are 80mm long I think.
