Looks like Coolfish has had a catfish take his tongue........

Just like that poor Flattys Lips .....unless he's practising with a Lip Grip.

nice flatty coolfish, you have motivated me to keep trying those plastics, I have caught a couple of fish on them but have to work out the right jighead weight and the type of retreave i think..

Way to make a point guys.

I'm glad you all clarified it for me otherwise I may not have understood what you meant.

I used the pliers to hold the top and bottom jaws closed for firmer grip and this also means if they flip around it doesn't tear thier jaws up, particularly on smaller ones.

I could use 'two hands' but i figure their muscles are strong enough to hold themselved together, and it wasn't like I was carrying it around everywhere - just held up for pic then released. And I was more interested in not getting hurt myself.

I also wasn't planning on catching big fish so used what i had at hand. Every other day every other fish can be handled no worries.

I may have damaged her 'teeth' even though they are way back further on the inside of her gills so she may have a problem cathcing those baitfish they eat and chewing her food properly now, even though they engulf everything whole. I will be gentle in future to ensure no damage is done to their mouths, even though I have just jabbed them through their jaws with a pointy bit of metal and dragged them at full resistance through the water to the point they are absolutely exhausted.

I hope she is doing alright.

Gee Guys, some serious posts or what?!?! All of a sudden people are upset about some friendly helpful advice that while most of us know (inc COOLFISH & DYLAN), some other inexperienced fishers may not - and by reading these posts will hopefully learn the correct way to handle fish. I have learnt many things from reading these posts over the last 6 months and i've fished most of my life! Don't be too sensitive guys as the fishers who gave advice on this subject are all great helpful blokes - not spiteful/critical people as they seem to be painted... Let's be honest, the photo is not conducive to fish 'care' is it?

Nonetheless, SUPER fishing COOLFISH and keep up the great reports... inspirational to land based anglers that's for sure!!

Got nothing to do with Tall Horses here , its about people respecting fish for release and not wanting to hurt the fish first and foremost before yourself.

Thats why a glove that is wet is handy and the lipgrip pliers!!! Then all parties are happy and safe

PS luke next time, look at a flattys mouth a little closer, you will see the rows of tiny razor like teeth a long way forward from the gills, sure they might engulf everything the eat, but they must serve some purpose. Good to see your'e not taking these suggestions to personally, I've heard you know a lot about your tank species.

great fish there luke, coudlnt believe it until i tried the spot out for myself there are flatty everywhere.
i also agree with the guys about supporting the fish with 2 hands but it only needs to be said by one guy and not everyone who wants to put there 2 sence in. great fish again mate.

    cheers steve
