Hells Gates, Noosa Sat (8th) & Sun (9th July)

My parents managed to get a week away up at Peregian Beach and invited my wife and I up for the weekend. Dad wanted a fishing companian and Mum wanting some female company. Of course we were happy to help out.

    Sorry no pics but...

Saturday morning got up at 4:00am and were on the Ledge at Hell's Gates at 5:15am. Beautiful morning with little wind, and a good swell. Came home with 1 Tailor (1.8kg), and 2 Bream.

Saturday afternoon working a small gutter out in front of the unit with my wife picking up a good sized whiting on her first cast , followed by a shovel nose for the father in law which was used to scare a passing group of little kids, 1 large flathead for Dad and a small bream for me that was thrown back.

Sunday morning up at 4:00am again and back out to the Ledge at Hells Gates with the Father in Law as well as my Dad. Worked the rock beautifully with always at least one bait in the water. Came home with 8 Trevally, 1 Tailor (2.2kg), 1 Bream. I was elected to carry the bucket back to the car. I think my arms ended up another two inches longer by the time we got home.

Dad went out again on Tuesday morning by himself and came home with his first ever Squire caught of the rocks and another healthy bag of trevally. Tuesday night he tried out a gutter at Yurumba Beach which yeilded a further 6 bream and 1 Tailor.

Following a massive fillitting session on Sunday night fish were distributed to both sets of grandparents, family friends, and brothers unable to come away on the trip.

Top weekend with great company and top weather - it does not get better than that.

The trevally were all a good size - all over 1.5kg, and one or two getting close to the 2kg mark.

All fish were taken on pilchards - except the whiting which was taken using a fresh pippee.

The trevally were great fighters and provided plenty of entertainment for the surfers watching on, particularly when all three of use were hooked up at once with the fish darting all over the place.

I don't have photos at the moment. Have to wait until tomorrow to drop past my parents place. Will post some tomorrow night.

Catching trevally of the rocks and at that size would of been a tone a fun. What pound line where you using to lift them up. I use 15 pound of the seaway at the tweed but there not that big and i get busted up lifting them.
