    Moreton Is.

Fished the four beacons, the Nelson and Curtain reef over at Moreton for the first time Wednesday night. While i didn't expect to bring home a boatload i thought we might get 1 or 2. The tally was 1 small grinner, we lost 2 baits all night and bitten off once. Probably wont waste fuel on another trip there as at least i can get a feed occasionally closer to home. It didn't help either on the trip home pounding through seas for an hour in my 15ft 'er. If nothing else i can say i fished Moreton.

Just going through my Beacon to Beacon seahorse, they're marked E2,3,4 and 5. I went over because a mate showed me the pics of 2 huge cobia and a decent Snapper he'd caught the weekend gone. We jigged livies at the 4 beacons but even fresh baits were no use.

Hey Green, dont totaly write the area off, it can produce well. Generaly the full moon nights aren't that great on the Curtain artificial reef, to much flow. better on the smaller tides and with plenty of burley drifting back into the structure, the local fish population is also highly educated and skilled in the art of avoiding capture whilst still managing to eat your bait.

With the beacons they are either there or not, if you dont get any hits after half an hour or so nick off to the next one and try again, once again the old burly can entice a good show but the flow of it needs to be maintained.

A lot of people venture over to the four beacons but whilst I have caught fish there, it has been summer time when the spotties are around. It can be a bit crowded there as well on weekends.

It is a nice trip for a bit of scenery and turtle watching/dodging but I am with you in that there are closer areas to go to if you just want to catch fish in a 15ft'er. I have also been caught there in fog and smoke and had to navigate home by compass (I bought a GPS soon after. )

Strange though that you had to pound through waves on the way back. I took an old boss to Mud last night and regrettably we need to come home earlier than I would have liked (ie before the full tide) to suit his needs but the trip home to Manly was glassy. You must have come home a lot later in the night. I came in at 9pm.

Hey onehellofafisherman, thanks for the tips, if i ever do go again i'll try 'em out.

Charleville, we came home at/ left curtain at 6-7am this morning, didn't get home till nearly 9am. The swell had some size to it that side of the bay, it wasn't untill we hit the top of peel it flattened out.

    Seahorse, i've got a 15ft southwind, cuddy cab. Run a 50hp Yamaha 4 str.
