Caloundra - Sunday Night - A Couple of Bream!

Desperate for a fish, after a couple of unsuccessful Bay attempts and conditions this weekend forecast as being too blowy for the Bay, I headed up to Caloundra as I had a 3 day weekend owing.

I went for a fish Saturday for a couple of hours before high tide, and managed to pick up 4 keeper bream. Equating to 1 fish per hour!

Decided not to go out Saturday night as it was raining and blowing a gale with white caps in the passage. (and the footy was on!)

So saved myself for a Sunday fish! Headed out for a throw late morning and got my ar$e kicked by my Father Inlaw - 4 to 0 - still with that average of 1 per hour! Came in for a couple of hours and after dinner headed out again - as we were in a tie-break situation with the score being - 4 all!

Headed out at around 7pm, first stop and first cast for COS (father in law) bang!!! a bream, nothing flash but a keeper! Two more bites in quick succession but no fish! I thought to myself "This looks promising! Should be a good night"

However - no more bites in that spot! I must have put the kiss of death on us!

The wind was getting up and it was raining so we headed to a more sheltered position. We had every possibly bait known to man including hardie heads, yabbies, chicken gut and chicken fillet and the secret roe doe! We were in about 3 metres of water and 1 hour from the turn of the tide, and over bends COS's rod - it looked like a good one and he landed a nice 30cm bream.

And I am 2 down for the night! Shortly after my rod shows signs of activity, and I bag my first for the night breaking my drought of the past 24 hours! Shortly after another, but again nothing too big at 25cm. I had just finished saying to COS, I would be happy with a fish like yours, when the sound that you long to hear, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, went off! Shortly after a 37cm bream was mine! I had no sooner landed this one when my other rod went off - resulting in a 27cm bream. I thought to myself - "We're on!" it happened again - I cursed us! no more fish in that spot!

Conditions had worsened - wind and rain coming sideways - I knew that I should've invested in those side clears! Even with our rain gear on - it was far from pleasant! Tried a couple more spots with no results, then went to my "never fails to catch a fish - normally vermin" spot (50m from the ramp) and 1st cast - a legal grunter.

Here is a photo of the couple of better ones, had to do more kilometers than the Leyland Brothers to get a small feed of fish, but it beats being at work!

    Final score - me 11 COS 6

Hope others did better than me!

    Peter

    TOL!!!! You stirrer!

The reason that he is beating me, ATM, would be because "somebody" has to stay home and look after the kids! At 2 and 4 they can't yet look after themselves!!!

Just giving him a head start! If we spend the same amount of time on the water, I do normally outfish him!!!!!

    Me? A stirrer?

    Why Janine, you disappoint me!!

I was simply going on the posts put up thus far by the both of you and it would appear that Peter is going the better, that's all! I mean, one can't dispute the facts??

    Take care

Nice Pete! Like you said, it beats 3 days of working! I'd take the fishing option anyday!

37 is a great bream. well done.

Janine, I am with you. Without all the facts,,, I would back a female to do better. They seem to have a better feel and don't try to strike into next week.

Nice report and fish great white

Sounds like the side clears would've done the trick

Nothing worse than getting rained on

Thanks guys, my first post on an actual catch it's probably only tiddlers to you seasoned experts

I am just honing my skills and getting in practise for my assault on some bay squire & like Sylvester the cat I will pounce on my prey and devour them and reach my bag limit.

Nah........................... I think I just follow Charleville out to his secret night spot with some fish heads and pic up some of his throw backs ; LOL

Herm, my darling, as I can best recall the invite was extended out to you for a night fish and I am sure your mum was happy to put the girls to bed. Wind & rain plus the cold of a night fish really sort out the men from the girls

TOL you tell her it's facts not stirring

    Thanks Smailesy

It sure does T1, can curses transfer over the internet I have been reading a lot of your posts

Jason it is great to beat the father in-law & can't wait to catch up you have been very helpful to both of us

Cheech you of all people I would have thought would stick with me, Oh well

    Thanks all Peter

    Hi Pete

Not sure about the curse over the net, and given the success we had before this wind got up, i would say the curse is dead - although may have to reconsider after todays shananagans!

I agree with CHEECH, the only time i took my wife (as she's too pregnant to go now), she outfished me 3-0 in the 1.5 hours we were out...
