Wello/Green
After about 6 weeks off from fishing, Mike and I planned an early morning Wello assault to see if we could get a feed of fish for tea.
Sea was flat as a tack, with a few rain squalls keeping us honest for the morning.
We headed up to our normal areas at Wello and Mike was smashed 2nd cast of the morning before I had even got rigged up. The fish rubbed him off on the bottom, but we knew it was going to be a good day.
We came across a huge school of bream that wouldnt leave our SP's alone, and ended up moving as they were becoming annoying and werent the desired species for the day. The bream were all over 30cm, and all smelted up.
Moved in shallower and were rewarded with some nice 40cm pan sized squire, before we saw Aquarius near Huybers. Had a quick chat, and whilst chatting, I hooked onto a nice 47cm fish that gave me some stick on our 8lb fireline and 12lb leader.
After Brent left, we flicked around the beacon for a while and were inundated with Trevalley and small Moses Perch.
Whilst this was fun, we decided to hit one of our other spots. Motored on over and first cast I was onto another 40cm+ fish.
Then it came, as I was rigging up, Mike got hammered and the immediate scream of his reel knew it was a nice fish. 10 minutes of agonising waiting whilst Mike fought this fish seemed like an eternity before we finally saw color. It was a nice fish!! A great net job by yours truly, and into the boat came a beaut 66cm bay snapper!! Too say we were excited was an understatement!!! Pics will be downlaoded on Monday
We drifted around the spot for a while more and it was a fish a cast for a good hour. Most of the fish were of legal size, with at least 8 all over 40cm, but all paled in comparison to the biggun.
We called it a day and headed back to the ramp around 11am with a great feed of squire in the esky.
Great morning topped off with a few cold beers and tempura battered fish tonight whilst watching my Sharkies beat the Knights!!! Ahhh, this is the life!!
Best SP by a country mile today was 4" Pumpkinseed Gulps!! Can not say enough about these lures for bay squire
Anyway, tight lines fellas!!

G,Day Beefa, Congratulations to Mike on snaring a nice bay snapper.
You had a serious bend in the rod with that 47cm model.
You guys must be using smaller hooks to catch the bream.
With all those squire you fellas where catching the dolphins thought it was feeding time..lol
My first few casts of the morning saw a massive hit just after daybreak.
I fought this monster for a 180 degree turn and then it headed for the reef.
I then gave some slack line and the fight restarted before once again diving for cover and then rubbing me off on the structure..
Ah well you get that sometimes but hey its great fun trying to outsmart those big suckers.
After we left you guys we headed up to Ormiston to get a few but nothing over 43cms.
Had a visit from Qld fisheries to check the catch and saftey gear.
Good to see they are keeping us honest and the not so honest people look out!!
Back home around lunch time.
Cheers Brent

Biff, techinique used was just a basic squire one. Cast out, let it sink right to the bottom then lift, wind, pause. The bigger fish were hitting as you clicked your bail arm back over as it hit the bottom.
Brent, it was amazing with how many dolphins and turtles were around. Everytime we hooked up they would surface near us and the fish would panic. We were using TT and Nitro 1/8th and 1/12th jigheads either 1/0 H or 2/0 H depending on the SP used. The bream were everywhere, every cast they were hitting the SP, it got frustrating in the end.
There were some big fish around early yesterday. We both got bricked early on, then Mike got his....and you obviously had a tussle with a goodun as well, should be a good month or two coming up!!
