I stung myself on one of those retches one day on the end of my finger, and it hurt like hell.
As I was out in the dingy (with not much 1stAid) and across the bay I tried a few things but ended up cutting the circulation of to my stung finger with shock cord and releveing the pain somewhat.
Thanks for the ID guys, it was a quiet day, but I was glad to catch a couple new species, however they sucked on the fighting front...way to small.
The 'Happy Moment' as it's commonly reffered to seemed a little wierd, my first thought was to handle with caution, and after reading all your responses...boy am I glad.
Spent a few minutes searching Grant's Guide to Fishes and the closest match I could find is the Blue Maori Cod (agree those above) page 258 - 259.
Supposed to be good eating.
Interestingly Grant's lists it as far south as Cape Moreton, so you should contact him and let him know you caught one further south! They apparently grow to 14Kg so this one was just a baby.
Lol not really Hornblower
I use to throw a cast net a hell of a lot when i was younger.. had a ball and caught so many different species of fish!! thats what kept me going most afternoons from 3 till 6 every arvo of the week!! Night time by yourself throwing a 20foot net and having a cruddy old tourch you can miss fish very easy The stingray i got done by was in the net too its been a couple of years since i have been done bad, although last year a barra got me good!! landed one about 90cm long I got it in the boat quite green and he didnt want to pose for a photo! ended up having to pitch him over hte side or we were both going in lol the Gill cover was what got me on the palm of my hand, took about 2 weeks to heal right.
