Morning fisho's. I woke up this morning deciding to hit the CB bridge for an hr or so and try chase a few Jewies. With the predicted wind and weather I woke up around 630 for an early start.
Arrived to the spot and it wasn't long before I had my plakky in the drink. An inside source had advised that with slack run I should get a few so my timing was spot on with a high at 715am.
2nd cast and my plakky was nudged very lightly, before I saw my line swimming up current. Letting whatever it was swim off with my little foxy, I gave the drag a quick tweak just to be on the safe side before loading up on the Wilson.
As soon as the weight was applied the thing took off like a rocket and the tussle ensued..........Could it be one of those elusive Jewies Barnsey is always alleging (just for you T1). Whatever it was it was going great guns in this current and I was a bit worried about getting rubbed off on the rocks.
A few short minutes later saw some colour and to my relative dissapointment I'd managed a solid lizard that had inhaled my squidgie.
Sorting that out now I had to land the big girl somewhere and eventually just lip gripped her, picking her out of the drink. Not a tip I'd reccomend to any young fellas reading this, as fish this size could open ya up with a flick of there head. Always glove or net.
Getting a better look at her I was stoked with the colours (being so used to estuary flatties) and after a quick piccy I called 60cm+ before releasing her to breed. No measuring tape was with me and I called it quits soon after as storm clouds were coming and my tummy was rumbling. Time to carb up before footy fellas.
Plastic used was a #5 SQUIDGIE FISH in true blue, on 8lb fireline with 14lb leader.
Pics attatched of lizard. Not a real good one as I was on my Larry Lonesome and I wanted to get the big girl back in the water before too much distress was caused.
Cheers. Rich
