Wet and Windy weekend at Rainbow

    Howdy all,

I spent the weekend up at Rainbow beach with my youngest boy camping and hoping to do some fishing also. Unfortunetly the weather didn't really come together all that well, although a great time was had by all. The trip started on Friday by taking the scenic route up the beach instead of going out through Gympie, it was then that I realised just how crappy that forecast was. We travelled from the first cutting to Double Island point without seeing one person fishing. There was and average of about 100 metres of breakers and when we got out of the car to collect a couple of pippies the wind nearly ripped the doors off and came close to blowing the young fella on his butt.

We stayed at the Carlo point caravan park and we couldn't even escape the strong southerly there either. Fortunetly the wind swung a little more easterly on the Saturday and allowed us to fish plastics for flathead and pike around the boat ramp. We picked up a couple of Flatties for the dinner table up to 55cm and numerous pike which were all returned.

On the sunday before leaving we headed down to bullock point to have a fish around the old jetty while the tide had slowed and my brother picked up a little school mackeral right up tight againts one of the oyster encrusted pilons which was returned without harm ( or a photo ). Still good to get away for the weekend despite the wind and the rain.

    Cheers Kev

What a beautiful place to fish, well done on the flatties. Ethan you look like a natural fisho. And that smile says it all.
