It's a late report but better than never. We disappeared from work on friday just after lunch and headed towards the promised land.
Arrived at Noosa late afternoon and meet up with Silent whom had already landed a nice flathead. Got up early the next morning to hit woods bay in the hope of some tailor or trev's. I managed a small bream early on soft plastics but was very quiet. As the light hit the water one local was flicking a popper with great success and landed 5 good fish in the space of an hour. Thus I quickly change to a popper and instantly had a hit then a hook-up only to drop the fish!
That afternoon, it was off to Davo's for some local advice and three popper where purchased ready for the afternoon session. Oddbudman and megalongzilli arrived at 3pm and it was off to woods bay to try out the new poppers. Landed some great trev's (GT and big eye?) all afternoon. Great fun watch the poppers get smashed on the surface and then the fight on 3-4kg spin gear.
Headed out again the next morning in pouring rain. If you wanted to see dedicated, or fishing mad, we were it on SUnday morning. Had a doubled hook-up early with a trev on a popper and a whiting on SP. As the sun came up the rain cleared to a glorious morning. With all the freash in the system overnight, things were very slow with only a few fish landed. But a good morning all the same. We have worked a lot harder for a lot less!
The final afternoon saw the girlfriend and I get out and chase the trev's again with her landing her first trev and first fish on SP. Awesome stuff to watch! It's funny to see them winding the reel as the fish as it peeling off drag
Couple of lessions learn't for next time. All in all what a great weekend!
I am heading up there this weekend, I'm having a crack at hell's gates and woods bay, never fished woods before and will be landbased, will be using almost identical tactics to you mate so is this a good option?
Great catch guys!!! I have fished the Noosa about once a month for hte last year and havn't managed a trevor yet I have used light plastics retrived quick and poppers, i did get a yellowtailed pike last time poppering near the Muna bridge!! Lol. i think you have to be there at the right time to get on to them i numbers. I did see a very good chop in woods bay one day ages ago, had just changed to a plastic and wasn't in casting distance with the 1/20th jig head motored in with the lecky but wasn't quick enough to catch them where they were.. Anyways great catch again!! hopefully i will get onto them soon!!!!!!!
Cheers
Brandon...
PS: Jacksta, I have heard the Noosa spit can have some good trevors also, might be worth a look?? lots of parking from the end of Hasting street.
Yeah Nice fish boys....There are still some good fish in the river at the moment.
Some good trevs and queenies mixed in.... ......Lost a good tailor there tonight too.....
If you plan to target trev's and Tailor in Woods bay and are land-based, I would suggest fishing from the Southern bank. If your on the Northern banks try to get out onto the far SW side. This will put you into the deeper water were they seem to be.
