    Not wrapped in butcher's paper

Yesterday (Thursday) Adamy and I grabbed the chance to check out a few places in the bay, which turned out to be a near perfect day out. Great company (thanks Adam!) and by lunch time conditions had glassed out. But the fish didn't really play ball.

We both felt that our snapper catches were nothing to really make a song and dance about, as we seemed to only be able to entice fish up to 37cm in size. There were no screeming runs or bust offs which is what often happens, but we lost count of how many fish we boated. Best guess was about 20 Snapper between us, 1 x Tailor, 1 x Flounder 1 x wrasse. We returned about half a dozen fish which were probably legal, give or take a millimeter if you looked that close, but we still had enough fish to feed both our families. The amazing thing was the occasional boil of bait fish, and as soon as we re - rigged with metal slugs, whatever was chasing them dissappeared. I had one cheeky school mackerel (that's what it looked like) follow my Zoom baby bass up to the boat, and decided to slice it in half, without taking the hook. Not wanting to waste good plastics on mackerel, as I was down to my last few in the pack, I rigged another type of plastic I have not managed to catch snapper with, by which time they dissappeared again!!

The decider for me to post this one photo up is for the benefit of my wife's work colleagues who apparently still don't believe she eats fresh snapper that didn't arrive home wrapped in butcher's paper. Nor could they beleive I had arranged to meet someone I had only ever spoken to on Ausfish and by phone, but never in person, at 4.00am in the morning! What's wrong with that?

All up we had a fantastic day, keeping around wello, green and St Helena. The amount of fun we had kept us very busy hooking and releasing fish. We should get into a tag and release program Adam!!

Nice to see you got a feed and had a good time because that is what it is all about. Tell your wifes friends that they just don't and never will understand the power of the fishing bug.
It's all part of the fishing experience

Sounds like you were kept busy mate. Good on yer for meeting up with a genuine Ausfisher and not some greenie serial killer

Mate, I believe you, really I do!
But the sceptics at your wife's work would be more convinced by a photo out on the Bay. As it stands now it looks like you unwrapped them out of the newspaper just prior to taking the photo inside your house!

Still, let 'em be sceptical! There's nothing quite like fresh snapper and if they all knew how/where to catch fish then the fishing pressure would increase tenfold. Better to keep them sceptical!!!

Too true, I should have got a photo out on the water. I had the camera and everything, just plain forgot - I have hundreds of JPEG photo's in collection showing good days on the water, who would have beleived I would need another as evidence?? [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Sorry Scalem, I think what you should have wrote was Snapper "allegedly" caught by your self and not bought home wrapped in butchers paper. Without the correct photo and at least one sworn statement from a disinterested witness a report is no longer a fact or does this only apply to Mr.Steenbas and his jewfish?

I never realized I had to be more convincing with my photographic evidence till now shaned, but I guess too many tall stories like Mr Steenbas have been told before me

My camera will be ready tomorrow when I take my brother out for a fish, we won't be needing any sworn statements, I will be more careful this time!! .... TBA

    Hi Peter,

Remember the mark that you put in your GPS, as "B"? I hope I can raise a scale or two, but will be in the thick of all the river to mud competitors. If you are on the water tomorrow, give me a call on ch 91 27mhz.

    Might prove an interesting day.....
