    First fish on sp's

    Hi Ausfishos,

Had a couple of hours to spare this arvo and headed down to Boggy Creek to see if i could catch a flathead. Third cast hooked up and was soon looking at one of approx 60cm maybe 2 kgs but nowhere to land him as i was standing on a higher bank. Walked him about 20 metres to a landing area with no problem but then he got the idea that i might actually try and pull him out!. Tried to go with him as he turned and dived but unfortunately he managed at this point to saw through the 8lb berkley vanish trace. Not too disappointed though as i got a good look at him and could easily have landed him with a net or gaff. Nothing for about 15 mins so moved along the bank and got another solid hookup for about 5 seconds before pulling in another sawed through trace (that one must have just swallowed the whole thing!). Determined now to get one on the bank!!!. After some time moved to another spot where a small creek runs out - felt confident as soon as i saw it, especially when some poddy mullet swirled away from an attack a couple of times. Third cast there and got the typical flathead hit quite close to the shore and could soon see the fish about half the size of the first hookup. No problems sliding him up on the bank giving me my first on sp's a decent flathed of approx 1kg. For the record the first 2 hookups were on Berkley 3inch minnows in pumpinkinseed on a 1/8 jighead and the fish landed was on a 1/16 jighead. Main line 6lb Berkley smoke fireline, Daiwa IM6 rod with 2000 series reel. All hits were achieved by casting up the tide and slowly working the plastic back with the drift. I guess this is all yota-yota for experienced sp fishos but thought i would post the detail anyway as it might help other newbys like myself. Can't oblige with a photo as don't have camera.

    Good fishing, pc

Good onya pc. I caught my first flattie on plastics a couple of weeks ago. It was amazing and the fight was the best i have experienced. That plastic now holds a place of honour as it was my first. Great report and again well done on the flatties.

Matthias, I was fishing between the bridge and the little drain that joins boggy creek about 200 metres towards the river mouth.
