As mentioned on Monday, i was out squire fishing in the bay and brought 2 nice specimens home for tea. The better half enjoyed them so much she actually told me to go out fishing again!!
So the plan was to get out to spot Q earlier to catch the entire bite session. Heading out across the bay at around 3ish, the 5-10knt southerly seemed to be blowing a little stronger then forecasted, and i was surrounded by whitecaps (meaning a wet trip over there in my open tinny), however i pursued, with the thought of another feed of squire. I arrived at the destination, and after fighting the current and the chop, finally the anchor held 4th time lucky. First bait was in the water a little before 4am. And well waited and waited till around 8ish without a single legal fish aboard, only 2 fish were boated, a 10-15cm squire and a big squid (which was kept for bait purposes). With the conditions still remaining too uncomfortable i made the decision to move. I would've loved to go and check out mud isl, as i haven't been that way for a long time, however i didn't take any spare fuel , so on the way in i checked Harries Arti Green Isl and St Helena without a single touch on plastic or bait, and the sounder showed it also.
It was coming down to crunch time as i promised the Mrs i'd bring her a feed home, i lept into plan F, attempt for some whiting on the wynnum/manly foreshore's with the squid that i had caught earlier. so on my way in i kept an eye out for the elderly locals in their dingies, and sure enough, they were out in force and led me straight to the whiting. after catching 16 diver's, i decided i didn't want to clean anymore then that, so i headed in on glassed out conditions at lunch time.
This was the first time i'v ever targeted whiting in the bay, and of course i love the taste, but honestly guys, the people who catch in-excess of 50 at a time, are you nuts?? (no offense). It took me a little over an hour to fillet and bone 16 of them. Now i know why i leave whiting as plan F, altho on the upside, i have a bag full of top snapper bait for the next trip.
Is there an easier way to clean them that i'm unaware of to speed up the process??
Got some photo's, will upload them later... maybe
