    Boat test run barra 05/08

Hey guys, I was finally able to dip my new boat in the water yesterday. Its a quintrex 395 trophy but as its second hand I was expecting something to go haywire with the engine or us to be swimming with crocs after 5mins. Luckily this did not happen as my brother and I went for a bit of a ride upstream to test out the motor . We covered a fair bit of distance maybe 5km just taking in the scenery. The trip was only aimed at giving the rig a test run but we also had fishing gear packed in the event that everything went smoothly (which it did). By mid arvo we were already cast-netting, it looked as though we were in for a proper fishing session. We cast the baits out around sunset and played the waiting game.

My brother got the first fish for the new boat, a small king salmon of about 50cm. He hasn't done alot of fishing before so to get the salmon he was pretty happy. We kept waiting for about another 2 hours. I thought it would be worth casting some soft plastics for the last hour of fishing. I cats for about 40 mins when we were already talking about calling it a day. It was then that my rod loaded up and a sizeable fish exploded about 3m away from the boat in the night sky. Judging by the amount of water displacement I knew the odds were stacked against me using spin gear . The fish got its head into the current and screamed down river. My brother had all the lines clear, the anchor up and chasing at a perfect speed very quickly. When we finally caught up to the rampaging fish a torrid down deep battle ensued for about 15 mins. Then from the depths a chrome barra appeared. It only just fit in the net, and was an effort for Ryan to lift. I could see the pole bending so I grabbed on aswell with my free hand. On the deck it measured 95cm and weighed 11kg. Its hard to describe how good it felt to get this fish on the boats first voyage. Will be out there again soon hopefully, enjoy the pics.

All bodes well for the future. There is nothing better than an unexpected barra of that size.

    The boat looks good too...

Great report Dan. Boat looks a treat from what I can see.

Cracker Barra aswell mate. You'll pull plenty more out of the Barron with your new craft now.

Will get back to you ASAP about this possible Tinaroo night session.
