Ahhhh yes! Top report ADAM my friend!

I have to clarify a few points though...

Firstly, if you want to see 'real' masters at work, AQUARIUS, BEEFAMAN & TOUCHY have Wello worked out a treat! Can't wait to know Wello as well as those blokes do!! But, time, patience & perserverance ARE the keys without doubt!

Secondly, i did clarify to ADAM before we ventured out that i was a bit concerned about the state of the tides! With a 930ish low, i had a feeling it may have been a bit slow until the tide turned. All success in the past few months have been on incoming tides peaking at about 10ish at night and mid morning (AQUARIUS' fav tide). This proved true to form as we didn't start to attract interest until after the tide turned and at about 1030ish, the feeding nursery stirred. Yes, and i allege that i dropped a nice fish halfway in...

Thirdly, while we went at 400am to save ADAM's marriage, i was tempted to go home and grab my vessel but a 10.30am appt put paid to that!

CHONG: Us Wynnum boys are bred tough aren't we? Or has a move to the country softened you up?!?!

GREAT WHITE: No doubt a trip will be in order in the not too distant future...

The plac's do work at night but i must say that i'm not sure if it's coincidence or not but i've found my 'bigger' fish have come at night on plac's (bigger plac's) but the quantity has certainly been better during the day.

And Oh, that's four succesive trips to Wello with 5 PB's broken - Smerdo 63cm, Me 58cm then 64cm, IBBO 56cm, and Adam 45cm.

And TINN, yes you are correct! "Fishing has no time limit so remember when venturing out with T1 you may never return until all the bait has dissapeared..." It's that thing about 'time, patience & perserverance' that we keep talking about!

    Take Care T

PS: ADAM, next mission we bag out hopefully... We may even take TINN and teach him a thing or 2 about placcies...

I decree that it is not a squire. At 64cm that is a small snapper.

It is always around the 60ish mark that we are never sure if they are big squire or small snapper. Was talking to a friend of mine that does a bit of fishing in South Australia and down there they have a bag limit of 2 snapper and some other large number of small fish they call pinkies (I don't recall the exact number). Anyway, the size before a fish is considered a snapper for the bag limits is 60cm.

So, it makes sense that under 60 are squire, and 60+ are snapper.

Re: Wello Assault with "The Master"

Thanks for clearing that up Cheech.... You never know when to boast if you've caught a snapper or a squire... some say its not a snapper till it has a bump on its head.... but most bay snapper dont wear bumps - not hitting the reef, with their noggins, to knock off crustaceans etc.... which indicates to me that the bay fish are feeding primarily on fish (and other stuff that they dont have to bash)..... although T's "snapper" had a large crab in its guts. But anyway - thats the goal line huh? 60cms...... so be it!

Guys it don't matter what you call it snapper squire whatever it is a nice fish. Guys down south call everything snapper don't matter if it is 5cm or 80cm. What is important is the length and T1 is slowly working his P.B up so don't be surprised if he nails the big one.
It's all part of the fishing experience

    G'day
Nice work, very nice report I wonder if the catch would have been further enhanced if you had stayed out past dawn?

congradulations adamy for your p.b. snappery squire , mate thats looks like a pretty solid fish annd good on you t1 your p.b. It s true a trip can turn good with a 1/2 hour decent bite. Sounds like you guys put the hard yards in though to get those fish.Well done

Re: Wello Assault with "The Master"

    Nice PBs both of you.
Not that I'm a huge expert on the subject but all my squire on SPs have been caught at night (or at worst first light / twilight). I agree with the comment above they feed upo into the shallower areas under the cover of dark.
I have noticed that scents make a difference at night too.
The bigger SPs (4" or 5") tend to keep the nursery away so that it may be a while between hits, but when they do its usually a good'n. I have never caught an undersize squire on 5" SPs, though I have found that grinners of all sizes will attack anything.
T1, You mention that your success at Wello has been on the run in tides, I've found most success at Mud on the last 1/2 of the run out, so that may be a good alternate spot for those times when the opportunity and tides dont coincide!

Re: Wello Assault with "The Master"

    Thanks Guys....

Chief.... we'll have to get amongst them some time... but gotta learn how to get out - catch a bag and get back in less than 12 hours Must try one of your short runs sometime..

Food for thought ratherbefishin.... do the last of the run out at mud then whip down to Wello for the whole of the run in - thats 9 hours of solid fishin Dont tell the wife

Blackened - I reckon another 12 hours and our results could have doubled

Re: Wello Assault with "The Master"

Adamy that is a great report. Well done on the pb's to both of you. A couple of mates and I spent 7 hours up the pine the other day for only 1 keeper. The time spent with good friends fishing is what is important.
