With a mild break in the weather, ADAMY, TINN and myself decreed a trip was in order to Spot XYZ at Wello for another session. #ADAMY and I decided we'd take both boats - he accompanied by GES and yours truly with ole sparring partner TINN #...
ADAMY & I agreed we'd meet at the ramp at 4pm although i'd have to come back and collect TINN at 5.30ish. #So when i got a call from ADAMY at 3.30pm advising he was on the water (obviously trying to get a headstart), i ventured on my way. #Meeting him and GES out there, we drifted around in the hope of a Squire or 2 but with the prime purpose to gather some livies for the evenings bait & burley session. #I was landing everything but the bait i required while ADAMY & GES seemed to acquire a reasonable supply. #The call came and back to the ramp to pick up TINN as planned. #Straight back out to XYZ and anchored up while ADAMY decided a spot 200m away tickled his fancy.
Within 30 mins and TINN is onto his 1st legal fish - a 37cm Squire - not a bad start nice and early! Almost simultaneously, ADAMY is on the phone advising that he too had scored one of similiar size! #30mins later and ADAMY is on the phone again this time to advise that he scored one at 40cm on a placcie! #Bugger me i thought, may as well stick a placcie out! #1st cast and what do you know, the ole Baitrunner (baited with the highly rated 'Mullay') starts screaming away into the evening ZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz zz. #Throw the SP rod at TINN as he belatedly screams 'that's what we came to hear!', grab baitrunner and flick drag into action. #Think that slowed the fish down? No siree ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ..... #lot's of zzzzzzz and TINN is clearing the deck ready for the landing mission. #More ZZZZZZZZZZ & ZZZZZZZ and finally retrieval and then colour, with intermittent zzzzz in between. #After what seemed an eternity of TINN trying to position himself with the net, Finally, and i mean finally, he's got it in and lifts into the boat to my sheer delight! #Straight on to the ruler and what do you know? #A new PB at 69cm!! #
TINN remarks, get your lines back out as where there's one, there's more. #Yeah yeah yeah like i care right now?! #Anyway, put lines back out, take photo's, measure again (just to be sure) and plonk into esky - oh and a phone call to ADAMY of course. #By this stage, 30mins had elapsed and i though i'd add some more berley to the equation when as i've reached into the bucket, ole faithful Baitrunner screams off again ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. #'Oh bloody hell!' TINN exclaims! #'I have to do this again?' as the reel zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's away. #This time, retrieval was a lot quicker with smaller bursts of zzzzzzzz in between and again colour. #This time, TINN nets it relatively quickly (practice makes perfect) and on the ruler at 55cm! ##And of course, on the phone to ADAMY. #Not before long he motors over....
Meanwhile, TINN was in the process of accumulating a nice feed of Chopper Tailor. #Things quitened up to the High before we decided at 10.30 to pick up anchor and have a few drifts with placcies then call it a night! #An hour or so saw a couple of undersize Squiries returned and we headed back!
Total catch for the evening was 3 Snapper/Squire 69cm, 55cm & 37cm; #4 Chopper Tailor (33-36cm); 2 wobbygongs; and a black tip reef shark.
A great night on the water with the full moon although a little lumpy at times but still beat sitting in front of the box!
