    Seaway Rocks 4/8

Hi Fellas, My first report here

Headed down to the Seaway south wall on friday the 4th with the old man.
We arrived at the seaway at around 4pm with a handfull of 65gram metal slugs each. Within 10 minutes i was onto a solid hookup. After a decent fight, a nice tailor around 50cm+ was brought to the surface. As i went to bring it ashore, the hook poped out and off she went .
Next cast and BANG, was on again. Once again a solid tailor, and once again lost at the rocks wishing i had a landing net hehe.

Things then went quiet for an hour or 2 untill dark. Dads mate in the mean time had arrived and was fishing 15 metres away from where i was, using large mullet fillets. I decided to head over to his spot as he had a solid hit and miss a few minutes ago. I casted out the 65 gram and twitched it off the bottom and it got smashed. After a 10 minute fight and the old man spotting with the flash light, we noticed it was a nice size GT (around the 3 kilo mark). I hoped down the rocks to go collect the fish. As i got within inches of grabbing the fish, the hooks poped and it was all over once again. Wasnt a happy chap.

A couple casts later i was onto another quality trev. This time the fish got the better of me and took off under a rock only 5 metres out. Sat there for about 5 mins hoping to get the fish out but no luck. Ended up breaking the line and loosing fish and lure. Couldnt believe my luck.

Rerigged another slug and was back in the drink. Within a couple casts was on again. 5 mins later i finally landed a fish! with the help of dads mate John, rockhoping down to the water to grab the fish. The fish was a PB size big eye trevally.
Next cast hooked up and landed another bigeye of around the same size

Decided to call it a night after that, but wanted one more cast with a homemade slug made out of a spoon handle. I must point out the boys were giving be some friendly shit allnight, saying the spoon would never work . Low and behold, first cast and the homejob landed a 40cm trevally I was very pleased and we all shared a great laugh.

What a great night it was

Welcome to the site Richos and thanks for the report. Good going mate, It's bloody hard getting them buggers over the rocks and I gave up long ago. Nice to see someone persevering.

    Welcome RICHOS!

Great report and top fish to boot! What slugs were you using eg Raiders etc?

I didn't think metal slugs were any good at night as i thought they relied on the sun to make them effective? So there you go, i've just learn't something...

    Thanks for the comments guys
T1: i was using surecatch Knight slugs, raider clones basically. I too thought they wouldnt be effective at night, but the fish were loving them. I was using a much slower retrieve rate than usual. Worked a treat
