    tweed trevs friday

thought id squeeze in a quick landbased fish this morning down on the tweed. took down my 6lb rig and used 1/20th jig heads with 3inch pseed gulps cut down to 2inch.
started off with a procession of pike coming in (could hardly get the lure out of the water with being grabbed by one) frustrated and about to leave i thought id try and keep the lure closer to the bottom in the shallow water.

first cast a fish that was finally not a pike decied to hit it and after a bit of fight a nice gt came to my feet.

a couple of casts later the pike still seemed to be the first to find my plastic, then out of the blue whack! my rod loaded and drag started running, some close pile-on calls and a my poor little jig heads hook bent later a rich goldern trev came in for some quick snaps.

about 10mins and a few pike later landed another goldern nearly identical to the other.

    anyway i included some pics

    have fun on the water

Thats good fishin there... The Tweed walls must be more forgiving than the Seaway - I havent been able to actually land on there on light gear yet - get them close to the wall then ping... 12lb leader rubs against a rock and they're gone - so good work!

Nice Fish mate. Were you over there on Monday arvo?? Whats the secret to nailing some goldens there, all i can ever get is big eye and gt's (not that that's a bad thing)

    Cheers

awesome fish mate especially on the light gear well done. I think we should create a special virus that kills off all pike lol just joking but they kill your lure everytime dont they?! ohwell nice to see you got past them and got some trev's!! Never fished the tweed.. might have to give it a crack once again great stuff!

    Cheers Joel

tim, $200 that hurts to hear, especially when you think of it as a new rod

    mitch,
thats the first time i've actually got a goldern at that spot, they seemed to be deep. wasnt me on monday, been in canberra all week for work. thats why i had the chance to fish on a weekday when its not that busy.

Nice pics deethy, Those goldens look almost identical to the ones i've been catching there lately. Seems to be alot of that size in the river at the moment. I'll give u a buzz monday and we'll go somewhere for a flick.

Nice catch there mate. Goldens....The Tweed has always got some good surprises. Great pics/report.

I use berkley micros for spinning etc. That might be cheaper than cutting down 3"gulps, but seems like your on to some nice fish so maybe the extra dollar is worth it.

    pete,
yeah i got a whole heap of those berkley micros when they were on sale, i much prefer them over 3inch, i wish you could get gulp in that size as well.

    silent,
not sure of the size and weight, i guess they would have been around the 45cm mark, they went hard though.
