    Crime scence at Bris River

Took my son to the morning land base fishing session at Brisbane River.
Saw dead or murdered squire wedged in the rocks, declare crime scene and took photography for forensic. Measured just over 35cm long as legal size and decided took squire home for autopsy. I mystify what caused poor squire to the death.
My surmise before autopsy was poisoned or swallowed small hook and died in slow way.
During autopsy report I could not find any hook mark at mouth and gill in perfect condition. Smell like normal fish and carefully cut underneath and inspect organ in good condition.
Checked internal tube and could not find a thing till cut up gut and ascertain No. 1 suicide hook caused the death.
And fillet processing and noticed red spot and I guess the sea leech (can’t spell right word Help me!) has infected through dorsal fin similar to bream.
Decided not to eat and keep it for next crabbing trip.

    Happy fishing

I'm with you silent - I think sea lice or sea leech thingy... have seen them like that on bream - apparently once attached they will continue to feed until the death of the host. I thought this whole post was a Gee Up at first.... good work - nice autopsy report....

I did a couple of autopsy's a couple of days ago too.... found out that cause of death was due to asphyxiation with associated hypothermia; apparently some dastard (word of the day - check todays courier mail page 18) had allegedly caught the victims using a plastic fish imitation and having removed them from their natural environment, placed them in an extremely cold climate wherein they suffocated from lack of oxygenated water... Who'd have thunk it!!

I still have the evidence at home pending serious scientific study on the effect of applications of various herbs and spices on said dead fish species to the human condition.... The report however will be top secret so I wont be able to divulge the results or the location of said dead specimens.

You never cease to suprise me Silent assassin. Did you actually manage to catch anything or did you get to excited/carried away with the autopsy?

Looks like a gut hooked fish with the hook still in, doesn't have a chance.

Where you seriously considering eating it? Its probably been poisioned. I would never keep a fish I found awash on the shore.
