Big wednesday 3 pbs
Headed out to spot x early this morning with a bag full of plastics ready to go after spending a week at straddie last week and not even getting a fish(thanks to shocking weather)Anchored up and fished with fresh yakkas till dawn with out a touch.
Then said stuff this bait caper lets give the plastics a run.Half a dozen casts later i get a little bump and come up tight on what i thought was a small squire, until it felt the sting of the hook and zzzzzzz what a run 5min of chasing with the boat and up come mr snapper 82 cm and 5kgs.Blew my 69cm pb out of the water.
Then we decided to fish in close to the reef on again new pb bream 42cm.Next cast another 42cm bream this one had a much bigger head and pulled the scales down to 1.2kg.
Moved out wider again and hooked up to a freight train. It ran for the boat faster than i could wind then took off behind the boat at a great rate and busted me off at the leader knot( i knew that knot was dodgy when i tied it so i can blame my laziness for the loss of that one)
Retied leader on fished for a while on again 5min later another pb 60cm 2.8gk grunter.
Also lost a big tailor at the side of the boat that ate a live pike we had out the back of the boat while drifting. And my mate got spooled buy the time it took for me to get from the front of the boat to the back to start the motor and give chase.
All up a great day .All fish caught on 2-4kg raider with sahara 1500 spooled with 6lb fire line 14lb leader 1/8 jig head plastics where lunker city fin s and the snapper fell to 3in bass minnow in pumpkinseed.
cheers leigh

Wooooow. That javelin is a BEAST! I use the same size outfit as you: 2-4kg rod, 1500 reel, 6Lb line and I remember the fight a 46cm grunter gave me. My mind boggles at the thought of that mammoth. I think the smile is missing on that last pic because of the stain of lifting the fish! And the snapper! I can only imagine there must have been a degree of 'the fear' as you chased the thing down in the boat......

Hey Tangles21, what a thrill of a time you must have had. What a spot to get such a selection of so many different species. I do wonder why any of them did not attack the fresh bait in the same way as the SP's.
I have never caught a thing on SP's and always resort to fresh bait and or either HB lures and poppers.
Looks like I should have more faith in them. Canoodle sent me a dvd on using SP's too and now I think I will have another look at the dvd and get even more confidence using them.
Wonderful catch and thanks for sharing your great fish with the rest of us here at ausfish
Cheers
