After a big day on the water on Wednesday fishing Wide Caloundra in some rather ordinary conditions, the body was crying out for its fishing fix, but in an easy kind of way.
Cant get any easier than slipping the tinny in at the end of the street and wishing the local squire population a cheery "good morning", so when the alarm went off at 5.00am this morning I was off.
Plan of attack was to fish the same little piece of ground as last week, but this time plastics only, with the idea of trying to flatten out the learning curve for this type of fishing.
I love that time of the morning when the sky has started to turn pinky orange, but the sun hasnt poped over the top of Moreton Island yet.
I guess the squire do as well, because first cast saw the gulp hammered on the drop by an un stoppable, shredding the 8lb fireline in the process.
Might be time to upgrade the gear a bit and leave the flathead stick at home.
A quick re rig saw another hit on the drop, this time landed, a keeper at just over 35cm.
Things went a bit quiet then except for the one zillion yellowtail pike that seem to inhabit this small pice of reef. Finally, another hit for a similar sized fish to the first, quickly followed by a littley of around 25cm.
With the sun now well and trully up, I stowed the min kotta and made the 90 second run back to the ramp.
Boat cleaned, fish fillited and ready for a flick for some lizards on the dropping tide later this morning at Hayes.
Gotta love these weekends off
Regards
Brian
