    I'm Tired! (And today's trip)

Well I have had a pretty hectic week this week.... Moved house into my own little unit, and moved the boat into it's own little garage... Well ok, it's sharing with some other stuff downstairs in the garage!

Anway, I took the week off work to move, settle in, fish, etc, so made a few little plans. It's also been a week of firsts for everyone I went fishing with!

Thursday pm: My brother flew into town and rang to say he's coming to see my new place, and he's bringing booze! Finally got to bed a little hammered at 1am!

Friday am: Up at 3:30am. Went fishing with Iank up at Redcliffe. Wanted to get him onto some nice Squire on placcies. Tough slog all morning, but he did get one small one & an undersize one. I harassed an occasional Pike, and 1 undersize Squire. I've never seen the area so quiet. We spoke to another boat out there, and they'd caught nothing but Grinners. Apparently it has been shut down for about a week... Ended up going Breamin nearby, and had a bit of fun there. So In got his first legal sized Squire on plastics.

[See Iank's report for more info]

Friday pm: Ian dropped me back home, I got a CD for him, then packed my gear into the car and drove down to Cleveland. Jumped in with Vic1 (John) and went for a fish down in that area. Don't really know down there too well, so it was good to have a fish down there. Had a ball with at least a bite a drift (sometimes 2 fish a drift) and had a great arvo. Hope you're feeling better John! Got home around 7pm, and couldn't sleep cause I was overtired.... Finally to bed around 11pm. John got his first Snapper on plastics (If you use the 60cm and over = Snapper theory)

[See Vic1's report for more info]

So - Now to todays trip:-

Up at 3:30am and met up with Sunny (Carleton) at the boat ramp to head out the front of Bribie from Scarborough. Went out around the South east corner and anchored up. Ended up getting angry at a Mutton Bird to the point we left! We decided to head over to Curtain and where nearly there when we spotted some bust ups on the top of the water, so Sunny cast a slug out, and hooked up solid! On quite old 12lb mono line he was fretting a bit, but after about 30 minutes of slogging it out, he caught his very first Mac Tuna. And it was a monster one at that! (See pic). Should make some very good bait for dropping down deep

Chased some schools around for a while, but they were extremely spooky, and with the 426,000,000 Mutton birds around, it was hard to spot them.

Decided as it was such a nice day to go a little bit wide to have a look around out there as neither of us had fished out the eastern side of Moreton. I had a few GPS marks for out there, and while drifting around trying to work out exactly which one we wanted to try, we came across a bait school. Marked it on the GPS, and went back and drifted again. This time we dropped some pillies down, and started catching some Squire. Ended up running the drift a few times, and ended up with 3 Squire (Up to 51cm), 1 Moses Perch (30cm) and the Mac Tuna from earlier. We did hook up to a few unstopables that reefed us within about 15 seconds!

Unfortunately we were on a time restriction, and had to leave. However, we had a feed, and that was the aim. Arrived back at ramp a fair bit later than we should've (It's a long way when you are doing part of it at 6 knots with lures out the back ). Cleaned up and headed for home. And geez this beer is going done well Pics to follow.

Now I just have to find out if another guy still wants me to deckie a trip to Tempest tomorrow!

    Cheers,
    Dan

Kingtin - Saw you as you were anchoring and gave you a wave.

    Dan, you're a legend mate

What a fishathon! I think you're really going to have withdrawal sympthoms when you go back to work next week.

Dan's being way to polite about that first mutton bird. I think it ate its own body weight in burley

We'll have to go an experiment a bit more in that area once my arms are attached to my body again. Gee but macks go hard I can't wait for summer and the speedy season.

    Good stuff Dan.
Nothings better than time off work and fishing as hard as you can, makes up for those all to often times when other things stop us from doing what we love
