Re: sole food
Good one Kel.
Only once ever managed to catch one myself, but it was delicious. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
BTW, think I read somewhere at the time that anything with a distinct tail is a flounder; sole have the tail and fringe fins combined.
Anyway, looks like a tasty dinner at your joint last night.
How'd you prepare and cook them?
Cheers

Re: sole food
Hi all.
It was an amazing session, like I said I have never caught that many sole in one session ever, I dont think I have caught 4 in my whole life, it was very surprising.
Brandon. If I had of known it was you I would of stopped over and said hi. Next time if you see me floating around up there mate drop by. In the next few weeks I am going to be off work for a few months. If I am physically able to go out now and then I might be able to take you around clontarf if you like, prob in October.
Sunny. They are the usual sole, just the row of little very sharp teeth in a big mouth.
chief. We were fishing with pillies on 3x 1/0's. Although I would really like to get up there again and toss some plastics around.
We used to go further up the creek after muddies but that was a long time ago. I had a good look around yesterday and think I have sorted a couple of likely spots that might hold some muddies and should be a good flattie and sole areas. Depending on what shifts my boss can put me on for the next couple of weeks I might be able to get out a few times. I know Anya would like to try up there.

Re: sole food
Jeff we are having them tonight, last night my parents had left us a quiche so we had that. Tonight they are being lightly fried in a little butter. As a kid we always called them sole, so I dont know if they are sole or flounder but I do know they are very tasty.

Re: sole food
Top effort Kel. I've caught a few in my time champ, but always hard pressed when it comes to cooking em. I've never tried cooking em and wouldn't really know how. That's why I just let em go. I know they're a top chew tho.
Yours look like good sizes too. Well done.

Re: sole food
Kel,
Sounds good. I remember getting all excited to eat the one I got, then realised I had not much clue on how to clean or prepare them for eating. Ended up just scaling and gutting it, then steamed it whole in the microwave with a little lemon juice, salt & pepper coz I really wanted to see what the flesh was like.
Was pleasantly surprised to find the flesh all came off the bones quite easily and wasn't too finicky to eat. Tasted great.
I'd be out targeting another feed of them whilst they are around, and leave the flatties for later.
Enjoy!
Cheers

Re: sole food
All i do with them is scale them, gut them and trim the fins off with a pair of scissors. Dust them with a little seasoned flour and put them into a hot pan with some melted butter. When the flour is nice and golden they are cooked. It doesnt take to long, the flesh just peels of the bones so easily. I have already pinched some lemons of the neighbours tree that hangs over our place so everything is set for a good chew tonight.
Adam sorry mate I didnt see you post, Thanks mate.
Rich, when you try them this way you will really enjoy them.

Re: sole food
I dont know about doing them with chopsticks. We just finished a really nice feed. It has been so long since I had them. I forgot how sweet they are. Fried with a little butter and oil so the butter doesnt burn and some salt and pepper when they hit the plate. Lemon is a bonus.
Anya is impressed and wants to catch some more of them.
